6.5 Fitting the pedals (Fig. 7a/7b):
The lettering on the pedals must be readable
in the cycling direction. Screw the right pedal
securely in position clockwise and the left pedal
securely in position counterclockwise (Fig. 7a).
Then screw the pedals securely in position from
the rear (Fig. 7b).
6.6 Fitting the refl ectors (Fig. 8a-8d):
Fit the refl ectors as shown in Fig. 8a-8d.
6.7 Fitting the stand (Fig. 9):
Fit the stand as shown in Fig. 9.

6.8 Hydraulic brake:

The brake linings must be kept free of dirt, grease
and oil at all times, otherwise the brakes will no
longer perform as eff ectively or even not at all.
Danger of an accident!
Check the amount of wear on the brake li-
nings before every trip. Cycling with heavily
worn brake linings may result in a complete
loss of braking force! Danger of an accident!
When replacing the brake linings, be sure to
use only genuine replacement parts. It is im-
perative that you make sure you only use bra-
ke linings which are suitable for the rim used.
If not, there is no guarantee that they will work
properly. Danger of an accident!
Always change brake linings in pairs only,
otherwise the brake will not work properly
or will only work with reduced braking force.
Danger of an accident!
The brake system is comprised of a brake lever, a
brake (disk brake, V-brake and many other types
of brake) and a brake cable.
The brake lever on the right-hand side controls
the rear wheel brake and the brake lever on the
left-hand side controls the front wheel brake.
The hydraulic oil is fi lled through the screw shown
in Fig. 10/Item. A.
The brake lever must not be actuated when the
bike is lying fl at, is standing upside-down or when
a wheel has been removed. If it is actuated, this
could result in air bubbles getting into the hydrau-
lic system, which could in turn lead to brake failu-
re. Check the brakes each time after transporting
the bike to see if the pressure point of the brakes
feels softer than before. Then actuate the brakes
slowly a few times. This should bleed the brake
system again.
If the pressure point is still soft, you must not cyc-
le any further. Your dealer must bleed the brakes.

Formation of air bubbles in case of
disk brakes
You can avoid this problem by actuating the brake
lever before transporting the bike and securing
the lever in that position, for example with a strap.
This will prevent air getting into the hydraulic
system. Make sure that you never apply the brake
lever when a wheel has been removed. If you
have to remove a wheel, fi t a spacer between the
brake linings.
You must test the brakes before each trip and
especially every time after you have adjusted the
brakes.
Listen for any unusual noises when braking,
as this may indicate that the brake linings have
reached their wear limits.
Check the thickness of the brake linings once the
brakes have cooled down.
You may have to get the brake linings replaced.
You may notice a change in braking performance
especially after the brake linings have been re-
placed.
Disk brakes require a certain amount of time for
wearing in.
The brake linings will only provide their full perfor-
mance after you have applied the brakes about
10 times at 30 kph. The braking force will increase
during this time.
6.9 Gear selector:
The 8-speed gear selector allows you to regulate
the amount of power required and the speed that
you can attain. In the lower, lighter gears you will
be able to handle inclines more easily and reduce
the strain on your body. In the higher gears, which
require more eff ort to pedal, you can achieve
higher speeds and cycle with a lower pedal fre-
quency.
If the gear selector is not set correctly, you can
adjust it using the setting screws (Fig. 11a-b/Item
A).
6.10 Installing the rechargeable batteries
Push the batteries into the battery mount provi-
ded. The battery will be heard to click into place
when it has been pushed fully in. To take out the
battery, press the pushlock button (Fig. 14/Item K)
and remove the battery.
