CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Disconnect the power cable from the mains before performing any cleaning or maintenance.
• Use a dry brush or a clean cloth slightly damped in water to clean the outside of
the edger. Do not use solvents or other potentially aggressive substances. Do not
spray liquids directly on to the edger. Do not use abrasive cleaning materials.
• Remove edging residues from the water collection tank at regular intervals.
• Clean edging residues off the sponges and rinse the sponges in clean water at
regular intervals.
Maintaining the diamond wheel
It is normal for the diamond wheel to lose its abrasive power after extended use.
The surface of the wheel becomes clogged with dust. Use the dressing sticks provided
to restore the wheel's abrasive surface. Take care to use the right stick for both sec-
tions of the diamond wheel. Use the fine grain stick to dress the finishing section and
the coarse grain stick to dress the roughing section.
Make sure that the diamond wheel receives a sufficient supply of cooling water throu-
ghout the dressing operation. Wear safety goggles while dressing the diamond wheel.
• If the edger is not going to be used for any length of time, empty and clean
both the tanks and also clean all edging residues from around the diamond
wheel. Make sure that edging residues do not remain in the collection tank
where they could harden and block the drain hole and hose.
• Check the mains power cable and the plugs for wear or damage at regular in-
tervals. Also ensure that there are no cracks in the edger body.
• The edger requires no maintenance or safety inspections other than the ope-
rations described above.
Operate the diamond wheel in the direc-
tion used most frequently and apply the
narrow edge of the stick to the wheel.
Hold the stick at an angle of about 30° to
the diamond wheel and apply moderate
pressure until about 1 - 2 cm of the stick
has been worn away.
Take care to treat the entire surface of the
wheel. This is particularly important with the
finishing wheel part no. 5114. Move the dres-
sing stick continuously across the surface of
the wheel, maintaining a regular pressure.
