Selecting the direction of rotation of the diamond wheel

Only change the direction of rotation when the diamond wheel is sta-
tionary.
Press the switch ¾ with a screwdriver or other pointed object
through the holes in the safety cover. The safety cover prevents
accidental operation of the direction change switch. Changing direction whi-
le the diamond wheel is spinning could damage the motor.
• Select the direction of rotation on the basis of your own personal experience
and training.
The following are purely general guidelines:
Anti-clockwise (upward) rotation provides a more suitable edging angle for
resting lenses on the wheel to finish bevels and counter-bevels.
Clockwise (downward) rotation makes it easier to finish a bevel using the
groove and holding the lens vertically.
This type of edging requires a faster flow of cooling water.

Edging lenses

Turn the edger on at the On/Off switch ² . Open the water tap · and wait a few seconds
for the diamond wheel to become thoroughly wet before starting to edge a lens.
• Good results depend on your own skill and experience as an operator. Learn
to apply the right pressure and to turn the lens correctly over the complete
surface of the diamond wheel.
Excessive pressure and jerky movements cause irregular bevelling,
stepped edges and poor finish in general.
• Make sure that the diamond wheel is always thoroughly wet.
A plentiful supply of cooling water is essential for a smooth finish. Dry ed-
ging or insufficient water causes rough, white finishes.
• Polycarbonate lenses on the other hand must be dry ground without cooling
water.
To edge lenses of this type, close the water tap, remove the top sponge »
and move the bottom sponge ´ away from the diamond wheel.
Every time you finish work, turn the power switch ² OFF and, if you have been wet
edging, close the water tap.
