Diamond wheel profiles and abrasion ratings

The edger can be used to finish all common optical lens materials including normal and high in-
dex glass, CR39, polycarbonate, methacrylate, and high index organic lenses.
• Diamond wheel part no. 5111 is a medium quality 2 section wheel,
with a roughing side and a finishing side, both with standard profiles.
• Diamond wheels part no. 5112 (roughing and finishing) and part no. 5114 (finis-
hing only) feature high quality profiled wheels for easier edging. Lenses can be
ground over the entire curved and slightly conical surface of these wheels without
meeting sharp edges that could accidentally create steps in the lens edge. These
profiled wheels wheels also facilitate a more natural lens rotation and more constant
bevelling.
All diamond wheels have a bevelling groove.

Operating precautions

• Only change the direction of rotation with the edger completely statio-
nary.
• Make sure that the sponge » distributes water correctly over the diamond wheel and
that the water drip tank ³ contains enough water for the work in hand.
• Change the sponges regularly, before they become ineffective.
• Only dry edge polycarbonate lenses. Always wet edge all other lens types.
• Always turn the edger off at the main power switch ²on completion of work.
• Use the dressing sticks provided to dress the surface of the diamond wheel
whenever it becomes logged and loses its abrasive efficiency.
• The diamond wheel is a delicate tool. Do not use it to grind metals or any
material other than those listed in this manual.
• Never allow water to enter the motor ventilation slots µ. Risk of short cir-
cuit!
