2. Use the wrench to loosen the sprocket cover nut by
turning counterclockwise. Do not remove the nut.
(Fig. 66)
3. Use your fingers to tighten the nut against the cover.
4. Turn the adjustment screw clockwise until the saw
chain touches the bottom of the guide bar, then turn
the adjustment screw clockwise an additional ¼ turn.
(Fig. 72)
5. Use the screwdriver end of the combination tool to
move the chain around the guide bar. The chain
must move smoothly and freely. (Fig. 73)
6. If the chain does not move, it is too tight. Loosen the
sprocket cover nut and turn the adjustment screw
counterclockwise ¼ turn. Tighten the sprocket cover
nut.
7. Make sure there is not a gap between the chain and
the bottom of the guide bar. If there is a gap, the
chain is too loose and further adjustment is needed.
Do not operate the product if the chain is loose.
8. When the chain has the correct tension, lift the end
of the guide bar and firmly tighten the sprocket cover
nut clockwise with the combination tool. (Fig. 74)
(Fig. 75)
Note: The chain has the correct tension when it
moves freely around the guide bar, but it does not
hang below the guide bar.
To sharpen the chain
WARNING: Put on the gloves before you
sharpen the chain. Sharpen the chain from
inner side of the cutter to the outer side.
WARNING: Sharpen on the forward stroke
only. Use 2 or 3 strokes for each cutting
edge. Sharpen sufficiently to remove
damage to the cutting edges, which include
the side plates and the top plates of the
cutters. Keep all cutters at the same length.
Sharpen the chain when:
The wood pieces decrease in size.
The saw cuts to one side or at an angle.
You must push the saw through branches with force.
1. Disconnect the spark plug.
2. Adjust the chain tension if it is necessary
the chain tension on page 20 .
3. Set the file holder (A) to 90°. (Fig. 76)Make sure that
the file holder stays on the top edges of the cutter
(B) and the depth gauge (C).
Note: The chain has left and right cutters.
4. Align the 30° file holder marks (A) with the guide bar
and to the center of the chain. (Fig. 77)
860 - 001 - 28.10.2018
5. Sharpen the cutters (B) at one side. (Fig. 77) Turn
the chain around to sharpen the cutters at the other
side.
6. Examine the depth gauges and move them down.
Put the depth gauge tool on the cutters.
7. Make the depth gauge level to the top of the depth
gauge tool with the flat file.
8. Get a rounded front corner of the depth gauge with
the flat file. Make sure that the top of the depth
gauge is level.
To lubricate the guide bar and the chain
The chain oil supplies continuous lubrication to the chain
and the guide bar. The oil output is automatically
monitored to make sure that there is sufficient oil. If
there is no sufficient oil, it will cause damage to the
guide bar and the chain, and too much heat. Too much
heat causes smokes in the chain and/or can change the
color of the guide bar. Always fill the bar oil tank when
you fill the fuel tank.
Obey these instructions to lubricate the guide bar and
the chain:
1. Stop the engine.
2. Remove the oil cap.
3. Fill the bar oil tank.
To do the maintenance on the guide bar
To adjust
1. Disconnect the spark plug.
2. Loosen the clamp nut and remove the chain brake.
WARNING: Do not use waste oil. To use
waste oil can be dangerous to you and can
cause damage to the product and
enviroment.
WARNING: Do the maintenance on the
guide bar when:
The product cuts to one side.
You must push the product through with
force.
The lubrication of the guide bar is not
sufficient.
After each operation, clean all sawdust from
the guide bar and the sprocket hole.
WARNING: Replace the guide bar when:
The groove is worn.
The guide bar bends or has cracks.
The guide bar rails get too much heat
when you cut.
Burrs occur to the guide bar rails.
It causes damage to the chain and becomes
not easy when you cut if the guide bar is
worn.
