Safety notes for side airbag systems
Special notes for RECARO seats with an
integrated side airbag:
The side airbag is located in the side of the
backrest facing the door. Its location is
marked "Airbag".
Sitting securely
Side airbags are not a replacement for
safety belts and can only provide additional
protection if you
- Adjust your seat properly (see Page 17),
- Sit as evenly and upright as possible,
- Do not lean against the door while driving
(considerable risk of injury would be pre-
sent when the side airbag unfolds).
Unfolding of the side airbag occurs in frac-
tions of a second at a high speed. Despite
optimum setting for unfolding of the airbag,
heavy friction between your body and the
airbag may occur. We therefore strongly
recommend wearing suitable clothing in the
area of possible contact with the airbag
(arm, chest and shoulder area).
No protective function after
the side airbag has been
triggered
Seats with a triggered airbag may no
longer be used.
Usage in Europe only
The RECARO side airbag seat is in-
spected and approved in accordance
with European law. The side airbag
system has NOT been inspected in
accordance with FMVSS (the applica-
ble regulations and laws in the United
States, for example). For this reason,
the RECARO side airbag seat may not
be shipped to, brought to or used in
countries requiring FMVSS approval!

Risk of injury if incorrect
decorative covers are used
Under no circumstances may you use
seat or decorative covers not express-
ly permitted for use with a RECARO
seat with a side airbag. Approval for
use with the respective vehicle is NOT
sufficient!
As the air sack unfolds from the side
of the seatback, the use of impermis-
sible seat or decorative covers can put
people in the vehicle at risk. Fault-free
functioning of the airbag system is no
longer ensured.
Do not attach beverage holders or other
accessories, which could impede unfold-
ing of the airbag, near the door and seat.
Disposal / scrapping
When scrapping the vehicle, all applicable
safety regulations of the vehicle manufac-
turer must be observed.
Please contact a professional RECARO
dealer for scrapping of the RECARO seat
with side airbag.
