9.3 Handlamp operation

The SHL 300-Ex is an extremely powerful, rugged Handlamp for industrial applications
in Ex areas and the fire-fighting services. The Handlamp features a number of innovative
functions facilitating a maximum range of applications and easy operation.
9.3.1 Switch-on / operation
The SHL 300-Ex is switched on with the main switch positioned in the centre of the
Handlamp, which is illuminated by two green coloured LED's. The push-button has a low
pressure point and can be operated even when wearing heavy gloves. The ON switch is
also illuminated when the unit is in the OFF state, which ensures that the unit can be ra-
pidly switched on in darkness. Functions such as flashing and dimming are also operated
via this push-button. Please refer to 9.3.4 and 9.3.5 and the schematic function overview
in Section 9.3.7.
If a battery power of approx. 25% is reached, the sleep mode is automatically activated.
When the residual charge drops to 0%, the red coloured capacity LED flashes and the
unit switches off. The ON switch is now blocked. By operating the emergency switch
(refer to Fig. 5), the unit can be switched on again - refer to 9.4.2
In some cases, the maximum operating temperature range of the Handlamp may be
exceeded. The SHL 300-Ex then automatically reduces the illumination power to <2%. If
this function is active, the right, red, triangular fault display flashes. This ensures maxi-
mum safety even in critical situations without the Handlamp switching off. When the stan-
dard values are reached again, the Handlamp returns to the normal mode - refer to 9.4.4.

9.3.2 Battery power indicator

The residual battery power is displayed by five coloured LED's. These LED's correspond
to a battery power of 00%, 75%, 50%, 25% and 0% (residual charge). Optimum charging
is signalled by green, medium charging by the yellow and low charging by the orange
LED. (Refer to Fig. ) The existing capacity is indicated by an illumination of the respec-
tive LED. If a battery power of approx. 25% is reached, the sleep mode is automatically
activated. When the residual charge drops to 0%, the external left power indicator flashes
in red (0%) and the Handlamp switches off. By operating the emergency switch (refer to
Fig. 5), the Handlamp can be switched on again.
