e) Use
The operating instructions include information on measuring ranges,
maximum measuring values and measuring times, and instructions on
how to carry out measurements for different functions. Always observe
the information in these instructions!
• Ensure that your hands, shoes, clothes, the floor, circuit and circuit components are dry.
• In industrial facilities, the accident prevention regulations for electrical equipment and
facilities issued by the Industrial Employers' Liability Association must be adhered to!
• In schools, educational facilities, hobby and DIY workshops, measuring devices must be
operated under the responsible supervision of qualified personnel.
• Also observe the safety and operating instructions of any other devices or installations
which are connected to the product or on which measurements are carried out.
• Check at a known source that the meter is working properly before using the meter. If the
reading is faulty, it can lead to a life-threatening situation. Do not use the meter in such a
case.
• Never exceed the maximum permitted input values. Do not touch any circuits or circuit
components if they carry voltages of more than 33 V ACrms or 70 V DC. There is a risk of
explosion!
• To prevent an electric shock, ensure that you do not touch the connections to be
measured / measuring points when measuring, either directly or indirectly.
• Do not reach behind the marked borders of the handle on the probes during measuring.
• When connecting measuring cables to the product, only use the cables that are necessary
for your measurements. For safety reasons, disconnect all unnecessary measuring cables
from the product.
• When using measuring cables without protective caps, measurements between the product
and the earth potential must not exceed the measurement category CAT II.
• When carrying out CAT III/CAT IV measurements, the protective caps must be attached to
the probes to prevent accidental short circuits when measuring.
• The test prods must be removed from the measured object before changing the
measurement range.
• Use the meter only up to the measurement category: CAT III-600 V. It is not permitted for
CAT IV category use.
f) Batteries
• Correct polarity must be observed while inserting the batteries.
• Batteries should be removed from the device if it is not used for a long period of time to
avoid damage through leaking. Leaking or damaged batteries might cause acid burns when
in contact with skin, therefore use suitable protective gloves to handle corrupted batteries.
• Batteries must be kept out of reach of children. Do not leave the battery lying around, as
there is a risk that children or pets may swallow it.
• Batteries must not be dismantled, short-circuited or thrown into fire. Never recharge non-
rechargeable batteries. There is a risk of explosion.
g) Cleaning and maintenance
Fatal hazard! The measuring device must not be used when the product
is open, e.g. when the battery compartment is open or the battery
compartment cover is missing.
• Turn off the product before cleaning/servicing.
• Connected measuring cables or other accessories must be disconnected from the product
and all measured objects before cleaning/servicing.
• Do not immerse the product in water or other liquids.
• Do not let any liquids get into the product.
• Regularly check the technical safety of the product and the measuring leads (and the other
accessories) e.g. by checking for damage on the device housing or kinks in the cables etc.
• Apart from the repair work described in the operating instructions, all other repairs must be
done by an authorised technician.
• When removing covers or parts other than those that can be removed by hand, live parts
may be exposed.
h) Fuse Replacement
• If the product is equipped with replaceable fuses (see operating instructions), ensure that
you observe the following safety instructions.
• Turn off the product before changing the fuse.
• Disconnect the connected measuring cables from the product before changing the fuse.
• Only use fuses of the specified type and rated current. Using incorrect or patched fuses or
bridging the fuse holder is not permitted and can cause a fire.
