Carrying the chain saw
– Only carry the chain saw when the saw
chain is blocked.
– Carry the chain saw only on the handle.
– Carry the chain saw with the guide bar
pointing towards the back.
– Over longer distances, attach the saw
chain guard.
Working position
DANGER
Mortal danger on account of cuts, caused
by uncontrolled movements of the chain
saw or the workpiece.
– Do not hold the chain saw in the body
axis.
– Hold the chain saw at the side of the
body so that no body parts project into
the movement range of the chain saw.
– Keep as much distance to the work-
piece as possible.
Observe further rules of conduct in the
Chapter "Working techniques".

Reaction effects

DANGER
Mortal danger on account of cuts, caused
by suddenly arising reaction effects.
Kick-back
A kick-back occurs if:
– The saw chain accidentally hits an ob-
stacle in the upper area of the guide bar
tip.
– The saw chain is jammed at the guide
bar tip.
DANGER
Mortal danger on account of the chain saw
kicking back.
– Plan the cut and recognise dangers pri-
or to sawing.
– Always hold the chain saw firmly and
with both hands.
– Always saw with full speed, wait until
the chain has reached its full speed.
– Do not saw with the guide bar tip.
– Do not lean too far forward when saw-
ing.
– Never cut several branches at the same
time during debranching.
