1. Set up the PL5 about 15 cm / 6" away from a wall (Surface 1) and about
10 m / 30 ft. from another wall (Surface 2).
2. Turn on the unit and be sure it is self-leveling (beam is not blinking).
3. Carefully mark the center of the laser dot on Surface 1 (this is A1).
4. Rotate the laser 180° and mark the dot on Surface 2 (this is B1).
5. Move the laser 15 cm / 6" away from Surface 2 and mark the dot there
(this is B2) (See right illustration)
6. Rotate the laser 180° and mark the dot on Surface 1 (this is A2).
7. Measure the distance between A1 and A2, and also between B1 and B2.
If the distances are the same, the laser is in calibration. If the differ-
ence between the two sets of marks is greater than 4 mm / 0.16", the laser
is out of calibration.
• Checking the 90° angle
10
Set up the laser on the ground 15-30 ft. (5-10m) [D] away from a wall.
Mark the front beam and the 90° beam to the right of it.
Rotate the unit 90° clockwise while trying to match the plumb down beam and
the 90° beam of the previous position.
Mark the 90° beam to the left of the front beam.
If the two marks are showing no difference, then the 90° angle of your laser
is in good calibration.
If the two marks are showing a difference [d], measure this difference and cal-
culate the error with the following formula:
A (angular error) = 0.5 * d / D
If A is smaller than 0.01, then your unit is still in the calibration specifications.
If A is bigger than 0.01, then contact your closest service center to re-calibrate
the unit.

Care and handling

The PL5 is a precision instrument that must be handled with care. Avoid shock
and vibration. Keep it dry and clean; dry off before storage.
Switch all lasers off and secure the pendulum.
Avoid storing in excessively hot or cold areas.
Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean
it. Wipe it with a soft cloth, dampened in a mild soap-and-water solution.
Keep the laser aperture windows clean by periodically wiping them with a
cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol.
