down from the Weld Mode WFS and Voltage
settings to the Crater WFS and Voltage settings
over the time selected. This creates a ramp down
of the WFS and Volts during the Crater time.
The Crater timer will be selected by toggling the
SELECT switch until the LED next to CRATER is lit
and flashing. A crater time may be adjusted using
the SET switch.
The default value is "OFF" (0 seconds).
Crater time is adjustable from 0 to 10.0 seconds in
.1 second increments.
In the GMAW, FCAW, and Power weld modes,
crater WFS and voltage are adjustable using the
control knobs on the upper case front. This in
indicated by the flashing LED's next to "WFS" and
"VOLTS".
In the GMAW-P weld modes, Crater WFS and trim
are adjustable. This is indicated by the flashing
LEDs next to "WFS" and "TRIM".
Burnback
The Burnback feature will allow current to continue
to flow for a specified time period at the end of a
weld after wire feeding has stopped.
The Burnback timer will be selected by toggling the
SELECT switch until the LED next to BURNBACK is
lit. A burnback time may be adjusted using the SET
switch.
The default value is "OFF" (0 seconds).
Burnback time is adjustable from 0 to 0.25 seconds
in 0.01 second increments.
Memory - Functional Specification
The memory mode is entered when the MEMORY LED
is illuminated and exited when the MEMORY LED is
extinguished using the SELECT switch.
Each time the MEMORY LED is selected using the
SELECT switch, the display on the MSP3 will show four
dashes "----" to indicate that no action will occur if the
user exits the MEMORY mode by using the SELECT
switch.
If the SET switch is pushed up, the four dashes will
change to "S-1" to indicate that the present weld mode
and associated parameters will be Saved to "user
memory #1" when the SELECT switch is used to exit the
memory mode.
Pressing the SET switch down past the four dashes will
cause the display to change to "r-1" to indicate that the
weld mode and associated parameters currently stored
in user memory #1 will be recalled when the SELECT
switch is used to exit the memory mode.
The following table summarizes the action taken when
the user exits the memory mode:

mode
When a memory save or memory recall is performed,
the MSP3 panel will briefly scroll a text message to
indicate that an action occurred. When a memory saved
is performed, "SavEd" will be displayed. When a
memory recall is performed, "rEcALLEd" will be
displayed. When the memory mode is exited when the
four dashes are displayed, the display stays on "r-1" or
"s-1" to show the memory position.
If the user attempts to restore from memory location that
was not previously saved, the memory mode will exit
without scrolling the "rEcALLEd" message as an
indication that no action occurred.
There will be no timeout time associated with memory
saving and recalling. The user must exit the memory
mode using the SELECT switch.
Pulse & Pulse Welding Mode
On this machine, Lincoln has introduced the possibility to
weld with "Pulse-on-Pulse" MIG process for aluminium.
Pulse-on-Pulse uses a modification of the Pulsed MIG
process where the output is quickly switched between a
Low-Energy Pulse procedure and a High-Energy Pulse
procedure.
A.
Energy
B.
Time
C. Pulse frequency
D. Oscillation frequency
E.
High
F.
Low
Advantages:
Wider operating range, ability to weld thinner
materials.
Less demanding in terms of wire placement, travel
speed and parameter adjustment.
High travel speed without lack of fill imperfections.
Good bead wetting, less undercut, flatter weld bead.
Good penetration profile. Less short circuit
disturbances. The High-Energy pulse cleans the
base metal and improves arc stability.
Pulse-on-Pulse provides "stacked dime" weld bead
appearance making the weld more uniform in
appearance.
