1. General
This manual is for Logafix BU-TA expansion vessels with a capacity of 8 to 35 litres with a flow
distributor to be fitted in a standard Logafix BU-TA T-piece. The package includes an expansion
vessel (A) with label (B), a manual (C) and a flow distributor (D). See the label for the maximum
working pressure and the pre-charge.
When rinsing with additives (for instance for protection against legionella), the vessel has to be cut
off from the potable water installation, for example by means of an AirfixControl.

Installation

• Expansion vessels with a capacity of 8 to 25 litres are installed hanging on the water nipple (E).
If necessary, use wall bracket MB 2.
• Expansion vessels with a capacity of 35 litres are installed hanging on the mounting eye (F), with
the water nipple (E) downward.
• If the expansion vessel is to work properly, a pressure-reducing valve must be fitted immediately
behind the water meter.
Applications
• Use on the cold-water side of drinking water installations in combination with a vessel-type boiler
system.
• Use in pressurized systems.
• Any form of warranty or liability will be voided if used in any other way.
Safety requirements during installation
The expansion vessel comes pre-charged. Damage may result in serious injuries. The piping must
be able to carry a full expansion vessel.
Safety
• Prevent overpressure in the installation. Install a safety valve (for example Prescor B) or a safety
group in the boiler pipes to ensure this.
• Set the opening pressure of the safety valve to a value that is equal to or lower than the
maximum pressure shown on the label.
• The connection between the expansion vessel and the boiler must always be open.
2. Installation
The installation must be carried out by approved personnel only. Observe local regulations.
1. Slide the pieces of the flow distributor (D) approx. 58 mm apart.
2. Push the flow distributor (D) with the round cap into the T-piece (G).
3. Put Teflon tape (H) (do not use hemp!) on the expansion vessel connection.
4. Screw the expansion vessel onto the T-piece. This determines the length of the flow distributor.
5. For the purpose of annual maintenance, as prescribed, it is recommended that you install an
AirfixControl module.

3. First use

1. Close the water supply (K) and drain the pressure from the boiler.
2. Adjust the pre-charge of the expansion vessel to a value of 0.2 bar lower than the minimum
cold-water pipe pressure. See the vessel label for the pre-charge.
• Remove the guard (L) and the plug (M).
• Measure the pressure (P).
• Push the inner valve (S) lightly if the pressure is too high.
• If the pressure is too low, increase the pre-charge with nitrogen.

| Installation and operating instructions
English
• Measure the pressure again.
• Repeat this procedure until the pre-charge is correct.
3. Install the plug and the guard.
4. Open the water supply.
5. Examine the seal for leaks.
Maximum water absorption
Consult the technical documentation for the correct calculation.
Maintenance and service
The pre-charge must be checked annually to make sure that the expansion vessel is in working
order. If water disappears through the safety valve, it is possible that the pre-charge is too low.
Check this in the following manner:
1. Close the water supply.
2. Drain the boiler until the pressure is 0 bar.
3. Check the pre-charge.
4. Increase the pre-charge with nitrogen.
Make sure that the pre-charge is not higher than the maximum working pressure. If the
expansion vessel cannot be pressurized, it is possible that the membrane has a leak.
You must then replace the expansion vessel. See point: 4. De-installation.
4. De-installation
1. Close the water supply (K).
2. Drain the pressure from the system.
3. Remove the guard (L) and the plug (M).
4. Push on the inner valve (S) to drain the pressure (P) from the expansion vessel.
5. Unscrew the expansion vessel (A) and remove the flow distributor (D).
Caution
The water in the expansion vessel may be hot!
Caution
A full expansion vessel is heavy!
Environment
Observe the local regulations when you dispose of the expansion vessel.
