2. Lift Locating Pin on the Cable Adapter and move the Clutch Handle on
forward to allow Cable Adapter to slip onto the machine. Be sure the
Locating Pin has locked into the machine.
3. Tighten Thumb Screws on Cable Adapter.
Position the machine as close to line opening as possible and follow the same
operation procedure as described for use with 5/8" sectional cable.
The only difference is no additional cable is needed because the length of
cable in the 5/16" and 3/8" Cable Containers is of suffi cient length for cleaning
the line.
The Clutch Handle now has one more purpose. By pulling down hard on
Clutch Handle the Adapter will spin. With an upward snap of the Clutch Handle
the Adapter will stop instantly preventing overrun or kinking. The built-in brake
will increase the life of the cable.
The machine coupled with either 5/16" or 3/8" Cable Adapter can be used to
clean out: Sinks of any type • Kitchen disposal lines • Closets • Bathtubs •
Overhead lines.
Brake Adjustment on Cable Adapter
Due to wear, adjusting of brake drum on Cable Adapter becomes necessary
for effective braking. Loosen two set screws (A), turn set screw (B) clockwise
for good braking action then lock the two (A) set screws and recheck tension
on (B) set screw. (Fig. 2).
Care of Equipment
Motor driven equipment must be kept indoors or well covered in cold or rainy
weather. If machine has been exposed to freezing weather, unit must be run
for ten or twenty minutes without load to warm up. Failing to do this will result
in frozen bearings. If the unit is exposed to the weather when not in use for
a period of time, moisture will form across the motor winding causing the
motor to burn out. Such an occurrence, due to neglect, will jeopardize your
guarantee of the equipment.
When transporting your machine it is recommended that adapter be detached
from unit in the event a "jar" might cause the unit to topple over.
The major causes of breakage are:
1. Forcing cables through inlets which are smaller than recommended for
the cable size.
2. Forcing the advance of the cable when the tool is at or in the obstruction.
3. Neglecting to switch to forward (clockwise) rotation after snagged tool is
freed with reverse rotation.
4. Using cables which are old and worn.
5. Leaving cables outdoors in severe winter or letting them become rain
soaked and rust-pitted.
The most important aid in avoiding undue cable breakage is the RIDGID/
Kollmann instant-acting clutch. With this clutch, the operator can release
the torque on the cable in a split second, thereby protecting the cable from
excess strain and avoiding driving the tool into an obstruction to a point of
"no release".
