Devices operated by a mains voltage should be kept out of the reach of children.
Therefore, be particularly careful in the presence of children.
In commercial and industrial facilities, the regulations for the prevention of accidents
as laid down by the professional trade association for electrical equipment and devi-
ces need to be observed.
The operation of the product, if used at schools, training facilities, and do-it-yourself
and hobby workshops, should be thoroughly supervised by trained, responsible per-
sonnel.
Operate the device in dry indoor rooms only.
3. Function
The ATX switched-mode power supply unit converts the mains voltage (230 V A.C. /
50 Hz) into the direct-current voltages internally needed by PC computers (+5 V, +12
V, -5 V, -12 V, and +3.3 V).
An fan which is internally installed outwardly dissipates excessive heat produced
during such conversion.
The product may be turned on and off via the mains switch.
However, the computer will not start yet when the mains switch is tur-
ned on. Both the power supply unit and the main board which is
connected initially are in the so-called "standby" mode. To start the
computer, briefly press the "Power" button switch located at the front
side of your ATX casing. Note that the button switch has to be connec-
ted to the relative terminal on your main board via a cable (e.g. the
"ATX Power" terminal or the like; see the instructions for your main
board).
Even if you turn off your computer by means of the "Power" button
switch there will still be a standby voltage at your main board.
The voltage is needed, for instance, to switch the PC on via the key-
board or mouse (as far as the BIOS of your PC provides for this option)
or to switch it on/start it up automatically for a modem/ISDN call/net-
work access (depending on the BIOS and software).
Therefore, in case of interventions to your computer (e.g. if you want to
install a new plug-in module) turn the ATX Power supply unit off befo-
re via the mains switch located on the ATX power supply unit to dis-
connect it from the mains voltage. Always pull out the mains plug.
