CAUTION: Make sure that the excess cable length is not near
the hard-disk drives or microprocessor(s) and does not block
the airflow around the hard-disk drives and microprocessor(s).
17 . Attach the device connector that is closest to the terminator on the LVD SCSI
cable to the CD-ROM drive.
Make sure that you use the narrow-to-wide adapter already on the CD-ROM
drive.
18. Make sure you disable the SCSI terminator for the CD-ROM drive.
See the documentation that came with your CD-ROM drive for information on
disabling the terminator.
19. If you have a tape drive, attach it to the next connector on the LVD SCSI cable.
20. Make sure you disable the SCSI terminator for the tape drive.
See the documentation that came with your tape drive for information on
disabling the terminator.
21. Replace the computer cover.
22. Reconnect the system and external peripherals to their electrical outlets.
Disabling Termination
To disable termination on an Ultra/Wide SCSI hard-disk drive, remove the termination
jumper as follows:
•
Seagate ST19171W, ST34572W, and ST32171W hard-disk drives — Remove the
TE jumper from pins 15 and 16 on jumper J2 located underneath the drive.
•
Western Digital WDE9100-1807 , WDE4360-1807 , and WDE2170-1807 hard-disk
drives — Remove the jumper from pins 23 and 24 on the option block located at
the front of the drive.
•
All other Ultra/Wide SCSI hard-disk drives — Consult your peripheral
documentation or the peripheral documentation on the Dell World Wide Web
site at http://www.dell.com for details on locating the termination enabling
jumper.
