Dell PowerEdge 2100 and 2200 LVD Hard-Disk Drive Installation
Replacing the SCSI Cable in a System
Without a RAID Controller or an Adaptec
2940UW SCSI Controller
WARNING: Refer to the safety information in your system documentation
before you begin working inside the chassis.
To replace the SCSI cable in a system without a RAID controller or an Adaptec
2940UW SCSI controller, perform the following steps:
1.
Disconnect the computer system and all external peripherals from their electrical
outlets, and remove the cover.
See your system documentation for more details.
2.
Note the path of the Ultra/Wide SCSI cable inside the chassis.
3.
Disconnect all the SCSI device power cables that are attached to the Ultra/Wide
SCSI cable.
4.
Disconnect the Ultra/Wide SCSI cable from the SCSI controller and from all other
attached devices, and then remove the Ultra/Wide SCSI cable from the system.
5.
Remove all Ultra/Wide SCSI hard-disk drives from the system.
See your system documentation for more details.
6.
Disable termination on any of the Ultra/Wide SCSI hard-disk drives, CD-ROM
drive, or tape drive that you plan to reinstall in the system.
See "Disabling Termination" later in this document for more details.
NOTE: Single-ended devices on the SCSI bus, such as Ultra/Wide devices, cause
the SCSI bus to run at the slower Ultra SCSI speeds instead of the faster LVD
SCSI speeds.
7 .
Make sure that all of the hard-disk drives in the SCSI bus have a unique SCSI ID
between 0 and 4; this includes LVD SCSI devices as well as Ultra/Wide SCSI
hard-disk drives.
NOTE: To minimize any initial boot configuration changes, avoid changing the
SCSI IDs for drives that are reinstalled in the chassis.
8.
Install all of the hard-disk drives that you want in the chassis.
See your system documentation for more details.
9.
Reconnect the power cables to the SCSI devices that you disconnected earlier,
and connect power cables to any SCSI devices you added.
10. Choose the terminated LVD SCSI cable with five drive connectors from the
upgrade kit.
