Stepless RPM Control
(GBM 6 RE)
Light pressure on the ON-OFF
switch 5 results in low rotational
speed, thus allowing drilling to be-
gin in a smooth, controlled manner.
Further pressure on the switch results in an in-
crease in speed.
Changing Rotational Direction
(GBM 6 RE)
With the rotational direction switch 6, the rota-
tional direction of the machine can be switched.
(When the on-off switch 5 is operated, the rota-
tional direction switch 6 is locked).
Right rotation:
Press the direction of rotation switch to the left to
the stop (normal operation: drilling, impact drill-
ing, screwdriving in of screws, etc.). The rota-
tional direction is indicated by a stamped "R".
Left rotation:
Press the rotational direction switch thought to
the right stop. (Loosening and removing of
screws and nuts).
Switch the direction of rotation only at a
standstill.

Chuck Replacement
Ring Gear Chuck
Use an open-end spanner on spanner surface to
hold spindle. Place the chuck key 7 in one of the
3 bores and loosen the chuck 1 by turning it to the
left using the key as a lever.
If the chuck is frozen in place, a tap on the chuck
key should loosen it.
Keyless Chuck
Insert hexagonal tool (Allen key or screwdriver
bit) into the chuck and clamp the free end in a
vice. Position open-end spanner on key face of
drill spindle and loosen chuck in an anti-clock-
wise direction, as if loosening a screw.

Sharpening Drill Bits
Only HSS drill bits in perfect condition (HSS = high
speed steel) should be used for drilling metal.

Twist drills from 3.5 to 10 mm can easily be
sharpened with the drill sharpener (see accesso-
ries).
Bench Stand
We recommend the use of a bench stand (see
accessories) for work where greater precision is
required.
Machine Vice
Clamp work pieces tight for drilling, i.e., using the
machine vice (see Accessories). This keeps the
work piece from turning and thus prevents result-
ing accidents
Maintenance and Cleaning
Before any work on the machine itself, pull
the mains plug.
For safe and proper working, always keep
the machine and the ventilation slots clean.
If the machine should fail despite the care taken
in manufacturing and testing procedures, repair
should be carried out by an authorized after-sales
service centre for Bosch power tools.
