a) General information
• The unauthorized conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible because of
safety and approval reasons (CE).
The product does not require any maintenance. You should never take it apart. Only experts
may repair the product.
• The charger is not a toy and should be kept out of the reach of children. Keep the charger away
from children when operating or storing it.
• The charger may only be used in dry interiors, it must not get damp or wet. The charger may
not be exposed to extreme temperatures, strong vibrations or high levels of humidity. Do not
use the charger in hazardous locations.
Do not use the charger immediately after taking it from a cold to a warm room (e.g. during
transport). Condensate may destroy the charger. Wait until the charger has reached ambient
temperature before using it.
Keep transmitting devices (mobile telephone, transmitting systems for model making etc.) away
from chargers as the transmitter signal could interfere with charging and possibly break the
charger and thus the accumulator.
• Handle the charger carefully and do not drop it. Knocks, blows or even a fall from a low height
can damage it.
• Do not leave packaging material unattended. It may become a dangerous toy for children!
• On industrial sites the accident prevention regulations of the association of the industrial workers'
society for electrical equipment and utilities must be followed.
• In schools, training centres, hobby and self-help groups, the use of chargers and accessories
should be closely supervised by trained personnel.
• If you have questions which remained unanswered in these operating instructions, please contact
our technical advisory service or another expert.
b) Battery and accumulator instructions, charging accumulators
• The charger is only suited to charge accumulators size AA/mignon and AAA/micro. Never charge
any other accumulators.
• Never charge conventional, non-rechargeable batteries. There is a risk of fire and explosion!
• Never charge damaged or defect accumulators. There is a risk of fire and explosion! Do not
use such accumulators any longer and dispose of them in an environmentally-friendly manner.
• Keep accumulators out of the reach of children. Do not leave accumulators lying around openly.
Children or pets may swallow them. In such a case, seek instant medical attention!
• Accumulators must never be short-circuited, taken apart or thrown into fire. There is a risk of
explosion!
• When charging accumulators, always observe the charging regulations of the accumulator
Version 01/08
manufacturer concerned.
• Accumulators may be destroyed or overcharged in case of improper handling. In the worst
case, the accumulator could explode and cause considerable damage.
• Leaking or damaged accumulators might cause acid burns when getting into contact with skin.
Therefore use suitable protective gloves.
• Please observe the correct polarity (plus/+ and minus/-) when inserting accumulators into the
charger.
• Never charge accumulators unsupervised.
• Never cover the charger or the accumulators during the charge process. Heat build-up may
cause a fire or explosion.
• Remove inserted accumulators when the charger is not in use.
• Separate the charger from the USB port if you are not charging any accumulators.
• Recharge the accumulators about every 3 months, as otherwise there may be a total discharge
due to self-discharge, which makes the accumulators useless.

Please note:
The charger requires a USB port for operation, which must be capable of providing
a current of 500mA (a so-called "high power USB port"). This may be a USB port on
the computer's front or back or a USB port of a USB hub with a separate power
supply.
USB ports on keyboards or a monitor are not suited in most cases for operation of
the charger.
When using the charger on a notebook, you may have to supply the notebook with
power via a power pack. Otherwise the notebook's accumulator may not provide
enough current for the charger.
• First select the respective accumulator type with the lever (see illustration above, position 3).
For accumulators type AAA/micro, press the lever downwards by 90°, because these
accumulators are shorter than AA/mignon accumulators.
• Place one or two accumulators in the charger observing the correct polarity. The polarity is
marked with the symbols "+" (plus) and "-" (minus) in the accumulator slot.
• Connect the charger to a free USB port. One or both LEDs light up depending on whether you
insert one or two accumulators, and the accumulators are being charged.
Due to the weight of the charger and the accumulators, it may make sense to use
a USB extension cable depending on the position of the USB port.
When plugging the charger into the USB port, the operating system (e.g. Windows)
DOES NOT detect any new hardware. The charger only uses the computer's USB
port for power supply.
• With AA/mignon accumulators, the charge current is approx. 200mA per accumulator, with
AAA/micro approx. 90mA per accumulator. If only one accumulator is charged, this charge
current increases slightly.
• The charging time depends on the capacity of the inserted accumulator and its charge status.
The charger does not cut off automatically once the accumulator is fully charged.
Therefore, remove the accumulator from the charge slot when completely charged!
However, a safety cutoff in the charger terminates the charge process automatically
after approx. 16 hours.
