Commissioning
Establishing a connection between the EIB 741 and PC
Please ensure the following before connecting the PC and EIB 741 with each other:
The PC used must have an Ethernet interface that supports the IEEE 802.3 standard. TCP/IP and UDP protocols are used for
communication.
The cable connecting the PC to the EIB 741 must meet the requirements for the interface named above, and be suited for data
transmission rates of up to 1 GB/s.
The connection between the EIB 741 and PC may be established or broken even while the EIB 741 is switched on.
The standard settings for the network parameters are:
Parameters
Values
IP address
192.168.1.2
Subnet mask
255.255.255.0
Default gateway
192.168.1.1
DHCP client
Deactivated
DHCP:
The EIB 741 can work with static IP addresses or with dynamic IP addresses that are pulled from a DHCP server. In the default
setting, DHCP is deactivated and the EIB 741 uses static IP addresses. This address can be set by the user, in order to conform to
the requirements of a specific network.
If DHCP is activated, then after it has booted, the EIB 741 tries to pull an IP address from a DHCP server. This address is used
until the duration of validity shown under "Lease" expires. If necessary, the EIB 741 can renew the "Lease" by itself. If no DHCP
server can be found to make an address available before the timeout is reached, the EIB 741 uses the default IP address. If DHCP
is selected, but no DHCP server is available, then the boot phase lasts longer.
The DHCP client requests an IP address, the subnet mask and the default gateway. In addition, the host name of the EIB 741 is
transmitted to the DHCP server. If the DHCP server is connected to a DNS server, then the host name can be used instead of the
IP address for communication with the EIB 741.
The default host name is distinct for each EIB 741, and contains the unit name and a unique serial number. Example of a host
name: EIB741-SN123456
The unit name is "EIB741" and the serial number is "SN123456". The serial number is printed on the ID label on the rear of the
EIB 741. The host name can be changed by a software command.
Note:
The maximum time between "power-up" and EIB 741 "ready for communication" is
20 seconds.
