1. Intended use
The product is designed for networking computers via network cables. It provides eight RJ45 ports. Power is
supplied via the USB port of a computer. Alternatively, the product can be run via a power supply adaptor which
is available as an optional extra. It is intended for indoor use only. Do not use it outdoors. Contact with moisture,
e.g. in bathrooms, must be avoided under all circumstances.
For safety and approval purposes (CE), you must not rebuild and/or modify this product. If you use the product
for purposes other than those described above, the product may be damaged. In addition, improper use can
cause hazards such as short circuiting, fire, electric shock etc. Read the instructions carefully and keep them.

3. Safety instructions
Read the operating instructions carefully and especially observe the safety information.
If you do not follow the safety instructions and information on proper handling in this
manual, we assume no liability for any resulting personal injury or damage to property.
Such cases will invalidate the warranty/guarantee.
Persons / Product
• The product is intended for use in dry indoor locations, it must not get damp or wet! There is a risk of a
lethal electric shock!
• Never use the product immediately after it has been taken from a cold room in to a warm one. The
condensation that forms might destroy the product. Moreover, with the AC adaptor, there is danger of an
electric shock!
• Leave the product switched off and wait until it has reached room temperature before you use it. This may
take several hours.
• Ensure the insulation of the entire product is neither damaged nor destroyed. The housing must not be
opened!
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked nor pinched.
• Keep the product away from strong magnetic fields, such as those around machinery or speakers, and
from strong vibrations.
• The device is not a toy. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
• Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. These may become dangerous playing material
for children.
• Protect the product from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, strong jolts, high humidity, moisture,
flammable gases, vapours and solvents.
• Do not place the product under any mechanical stress.
• If it is no longer possible to operate the product safely, take it out of operation and protect it from any
accidental use. Safe operation can no longer be guaranteed if the product:
- is visibly damaged,
- is no longer working properly,
- has been stored for extended periods in poor ambient conditions or
- has been subjected to any serious transport-related stresses.
• Please handle the product carefully. Jolts, impacts or a fall even from a low height can damage the product.
• Also observe the safety and operating instructions of any other devices which are connected to the product.
Miscellaneous
• Consult an expert when in doubt about operation, safety or connection of the device.
• Maintenance, modifications and repairs are to be performed exclusively by an expert or at a qualified shop.
• If you have questions which remain unanswered by these operating instructions, contact our technical
support service or other technical personnel.
4. Installation
• Magnets: Remove the film and stick the magnets onto the fitting holes on the switch's underside. You can
now mount the switch on every magnetic surface.
• Anti-slip pads: Remove the film and stick the anti-slip pads onto the switch's underside. This ensures
stable positioning of the switch on all suitable surfaces. Do not stick the anti-slip pads over the ventilation
openings.
5. Connection
• Power is supplied either via a computer USB port or a standard mains socket. If you want to use an optional
power adaptor, you must check the "Technical Data" section.
Version 12/12
- USB port: Connect the switch's low voltage socket with the circular connector of the USB power cord.
Then, plug the USB plug into the 'high-power' USB port of your computer, which provides 500 mA
output current.
- Power adaptor: Connect the round plug from an optional power adapter to the low voltage connector
on the network switch. Then connect the power adapter to the mains socket.
• The connections can be connected to appropriate RJ45 jacks on the network cards or another network
switch.
The network switch supplied has automatic uplink recognition for each port, which allows for
particularly simple wiring to other switches (a cross-link cable etc. is not required any longer).
6. Tips and Notes
• If you have your own network or system administrator for your network (as will probably be the case in a
larger company), please let this person assume the responsibility for connection and wiring. Do not connect
the network switch yourself!
• The twisted pair cable between the network switch and computer must not be longer than 100 m. Only use
so-called CAT5e cables.
• The green LEDs, for each network port, indicate if there is a correct twisted pair cable and connection (LED
on), a missing cable or incorrect connection (LED off) or data transmission (LED blinks). The orange power
LED lights up once the switch is supplied with power.
• The maximum data transfer rates of 10 Mbit (a little over 1 MByte) or 100 Mbit (a little over 10 MByte) per
second are not achievable in real operation. During data transmission, not only is data transmitted, but also
protocol information etc, data packages must be repeated or different computers may want to transmit data
at the same time. Furthermore, the data must be read off the hard disk of one computer and written onto
the hard disk of another computer. Effectively, at a 10 Mbit data transfer rate, approx. 800 kByte/s can be
achieved, at 100 Mbit some MByte/s are possible.
• If the network switch is not supplied with power, all the connections will be out of operation. A network
connection is not possible.
7. Maintenance and Cleaning
The product does not require any maintenance and should never be disassembled for any reason. To clean
the product, use a dry, clean and soft cloth; before cleaning, disconnect the product from the power supply.
8. Disposal
Electronic devices are recyclable waste and must not be disposed of in the household waste.
At the end of its service life, dispose of the product according to the relevant statutory regulations.
