c) Firewire
• The two Firewire connectors on the front (1x 6-pole and 1x 4-pole connector) are connected
to each other. For this reason, only one of the two connectors may be used at the same time!
d) Power-eSATA
• A special Power-eSata device can be connected to the Power-eSATA port, e.g. a fast Power-
eSATA memory stick, but also an external docking station that supports Power-eSata.
• Since the Power e-SATA port also receives all USB signals via the USB connection to the
mainboard, a USB device can also be connected due to the special design of the Power-eSata
port's connector (max. USB2.0/1.1 speed, depending on the speed of the USB controller on
the mainboard).
Do not apply force when connecting a USB device to the eSATA connector; observe the
correct orientation of the USB plug.
The USB signals are only looped through, so the USB device has a direct connection to the
internal USB port of the mainboard.
• The plug-in unit provides an output voltage of 5 V/DC and 12 V/DC on the Power-eSATA
connector.
Thus, a suiteable, external hard drive or docking station with Power eSATA can be operated
with both 6.35cm/2.5" hard drives and 8.9cm/3.5" hard discs!
• Contrary to USB/Firewire, with eSATA or Power-eSATA it is possible that an external hard disc
is not recognised by the operating system when connected during running operation. A re-start
might be necessary. Furthermore, the hard disc that is connected to eSATA/Power-eSATA
must not be disconnected during running operation since this may cause data loss.
It depends on both the SATA controller and the drivers as to whether the plugging
in and unplugging is possible during operation (so-called „hotplugging").
Due to the multitude of main boards, controllers and drivers, we recommend for
safety reasons to always connect and disconnect an external eSATA/Power-eSATA
device when the computer is turned off.
