Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Das Produkt ist zum Einbau in einen PC-kompatiblen Computer vorgesehen und
stellt dort USB2.0- und 1394-Schnittstellen zur Verfügung.

Einbau
Falls Sie keine Fachkenntnisse für den Einbau besitzen, so lassen Sie
den Einbau von einer FACHKRAFT oder einer entsprechenden
Fachwerkstatt durchführen!
Durch unsachgemässen Einbau wird sowohl die Steckkarte als auch
Ihr Computer und alle angeschlossenen Geräte beschädigt.
Vorsicht, Lebensgefahr!
Schalten Sie den Computer, in den die Steckkarte eingebaut werden
soll und alle angeschlossenen Geräte aus und trennen Sie alle Geräte
von der Netzspannung, ziehen Sie den Netzstecker! Das Ausschalten
über den Ein-/Ausschalter genügt nicht!
• Schrauben Sie das Gehäuse Ihres Computers auf und nehmen Sie den
Gehäusedeckel vorsichtig ab.
• Suchen Sie einen freien PCI-Steckplatz, entfernen Sie das zugehörige Slotblech
und stecken Sie die PCI-Karte in den PCI-Slot ein. Schrauben Sie die Steckkarte
fest, kontrollieren Sie den korrekten Sitz im PCI-Slot!
• Falls Sie zahlreiche USB2.0- und 1394-Geräte (ohne eigene Stromversorgung/
Netzteil!) anstecken, so sollten Sie einen freien 3.5"-Stromstecker Ihres PC-
Netzteils an den Stromanschluss der PCI-Karte anstecken.
• Schrauben Sie den Computer wieder zu.
• Verbinden Sie Ihren Computer und Monitor wieder mit der Netzspannung und
schalten Sie alle Geräte ein.
• Startet Ihr Computer nicht korrekt, so schalten Sie ihn sofort wieder aus und kon-
trollieren Sie sämtliche Einstellungen und Kabelverbindungen.
Vor dem erneuten Öffnen des PC-Gehäuses ist der PC wieder von der
Netzspannung zu trennen, siehe oben!
Treiber-Installation
Windows erkennt die Steckkarte automatisch. Legen Sie die Treiberdiskette in das
Diskettenlaufwerk Ihres PCs ein und folgen Sie allen Anweisungen von Windows.
Die Treiber des 1394-Teils der PCI-Karte sind in Windows enthalten.
Auf der Diskette befinden sich nur die Treiber für USB2.0.
Windows 98SE/ME benötigt dann ggf. seine Installations-CD, um weitere
Komponenten zu installieren.
Eventuell ist danach erst ein Neustart nötig, bevor 1394- und USB2.0-Geräte ein-
wandfrei erkannt werden.
Tipps & Hinweise
a) Allgemein
• Zum Betrieb der Kombikarte ist mindestens Windows 98SE (Second Edition,
Zweite Ausgabe) erforderlich. Das normale Windows 98 oder gar Windows 95 ist
nicht in der Lage, den korrekten Betrieb sicherzustellen.
• Es ist belanglos, welchen der USB2.0-/1394-Ports Sie zuerst benutzen, da alle
Anschlüsse gleichberechtigt sind.
• USB2.0- und 1394-Geräte erlauben das Ein- und Ausstecken während dem

Betrieb. Sie brauchen also nicht Ihren PC ausschalten, wenn Sie Geräte ein- oder

ausstecken wollen (bei anderen Schnittstellen kann dies zu Beschädigungen füh-
ren, z.B. wenn Sie eine PS/2-Maus während dem Betrieb ein- oder ausstecken).
Finden jedoch Datenübertragungen auf dem USB- oder 1394-Port statt, z.B.
wenn eine Videokamera Daten an den PC liefert, und Sie ziehen den 1394-
Stecker heraus, könnte das Anwendungsprogramm abstürzen und evtl. auch
andere Daten beschädigt werden!
Bei Windows ME erscheint bei manchen USB2.0- und 1394-Geräten ein Icon mit
einem Doppelpfeil in der Menüleiste. Über diese Funktion können Sie das
USB2.0- bzw. 1394-Gerät vom PC "trennen", dem PC also mitteilen, dass er offe-
ne Dateien schließen soll.
b) USB2.0
• Die USB2.0-Ports unterstützen selbstverständlich auch USB1.1. Deshalb können
hier auch herkömmliche "langsame" USB-Geräte angesteckt werden.
• Wollen Sie USB2.0-Geräte über einen USB-Hub betreiben, so ist ein USB2.0-Hub
erforderlich. Mit einem herkömmlichen USB1.1-Hub funktioniert der High-Speed-
Betrieb von USB2.0 nicht.
• Für einwandfreien USB2.0-Betrieb sind normalerweise keine speziellen "USB2.0-
Kabel" erforderlich. Herkömmliche "normale" USB-Kabel reichen vollig aus,
allerdings müssen diese abgeschirmt sein.
Sollten Sie beim Betrieb von USB2.0-Geräten Übertragungsprobleme feststellen,
so können Sie versuchsweise ein USB-Kabel verwenden, das auf USB2.0-Betrieb
getestet worden ist ("USB2.0-certified").
• Im abgesicherten Modus von Windows ist kein USB-Betrieb möglich.
USB-Tastaturen und USB-Mäuse funktionieren deshalb normalerweise nicht
(evtl. bietet das BIOS Ihres Motherboards USB-Unterstützung für eie USB-Tastatur
bzw. -Maus).
c) 1394
• Beim Betrieb von Digital-Video-Kameras mit 1394-Anschluss kann der PC
abstürzen, wenn die Kamera ausgeschaltet wird oder die Kamera in den Standby-
Modus umschaltet (z.B. wenn der Akku leer wird).
Verwenden Sie zum Betrieb der Kamera ein Netzteil anstelle des Kamera-Akkus
und schalten Sie die Kamera erst nach dem Ausschalten des PCs ab, wenn bei
Ihnen dieses Problem auftritt.
• Bei manchen Digital-Video-Kameras ist nur die Video-Wiedergabe über den
1394-Anschluss möglich, jedoch keine Aufnahme. Beachten Sie die Anleitung zu
Ihrer Digital-Video-Kamera.
• Bei der Aufnahme von Video auf sog. Digital8-Video-Kameras (bei denen die
Aufnahme lt. Anleitung möglich ist) melden Videoschnitt-Programme möglicher-
weise einen "Schreibschutzfehler" o.ä.
Dies ist zurückzuführen auf die verwendete Videocassette. Benutzen Sie test-
weise eine teurere MP-Cassette anstelle einer herkömmlichen ME-Cassette. Die
Codierung der Cassette wird u.U. vom Videoschnitt-Programm falsch ausgewer-
tet.
• Je nach Bauart einer externen 1394-Festplatte ist ein Formatieren/Partitionieren
mit den MS-DOS-Kommandos FDISK und FORMAT möglich oder nur mit der bei
der 1394-Festplatte mitgelieferten Software. Beachten Sie die Anleitung zu dem
1394-Gerät.

Proper Use
The product is designed to be fitted into a PC-compatible computer and there it pro-
vides USB2.0 ports and 1394 ports.
Scope of the Delivery

Features

devices and 1394 devices)

Installation
If you do not have expert knowledge on the installation, you should
have the product installed by QUALIFIED PERSONNEL or by a corre-
sponding specialist dealer shop!
Improper fitting causes damage to the CPU fan, the CPU, the mother-
board and other PC components.
Caution, serious hazard!
Turn off the computer into which you intent to install the CPU fan and
all connected devices and disconnect all appliances from the mains
supply, pull the mains cord! It is not sufficient to turn them off via the
mains switch!
• Unscrew the housing of your computer and remove carefully the housing lid.
• Look for an empty PCI slot. Remove the associated slot sheet. Insert the PCI card
in the empty PCI slot and screw it tight, check if the PCI card is positioned cor-
rectly!
• If you are using several USB2.0 and 1394 devices (without autonomous power
supply/mains unit), you should plug in an empty 3.5" mains connector of your PC
mains unit to the mains supply of the PCI card.
• Close the computer by tightening the screws.
• Reconnect your computer and monitor to the mains voltage and switch on all devi-
ces.
• If your computer does not start correctly, turn it off immediately and check all set-
tings and cable connections.
• Before you open the PC again, disconnect the PC from the mains, see above!
Installing the drivers
Windows will automatically detect the plug-in card. Insert the driver diskette in the
disk drive of you PC and follow the instructions by Windows.
The drivers of the 1394 part of the PCI are part of Windows.
The diskette only contains the drivers for USB2.0.
Windows 98SE/ME may then require its installation CD-ROM to install further com-
ponents.
You may have to restart your computer afterwards, before it detects 1394 devices
and USB2.0 devices without problems.
Tips & Hints
a) General
• To operate the combo card, you need at least Windows 98SE (Second Edition). The
standard edition of Windows 98 or Windows 95 cannot ensure the correct opera-
tion.
• It does not matter which one of the USB2.0/1394 ports is used first since all ports
have equality of access.
• USB2.0 devices and 1394 devices enable devices to be plugged during operation.

Thus you do not have to turn off your PC if you want to plug or unplug devices

(other ports can take damage by this e.g., if you plug or unplug a PS/2 mouse
during operation).
• If, however, data is being transmitted on the USB port or 1394 port e.g., when a
camcorder transmits data to the PC and you pull the 1394 plug, the application
program may crash and other data, too, may be damaged!
• For some USB2.0 and 1394 devices, Windows ME shows an icon with a double
arrow on the menu bar. You can use this feature to "disconnect" the USB2.0 or
1394 device from the PC, i.e. tell the PC to close open files.
b) USB2.0
• Of course the USB2.0 ports also support USB1.1. Thus you can also plug in "slow"
USB devices.
• If you want to operate USB2.0 devices via a USB hub, you require a USB2.0 hub.
If you use an ordinary USB1.1 hub, the high-speed mode is not available.
• A correct USB2.0 operation generally does not require special "USB2.0 cables".
"Standard" USB cables are perfectly sufficient provided they are screened.
If transmission problems occur when operating USB2.0 devices, you can try to
use a USB2.0 certified cable.
• The secured mode of Windows does not permit USB mode.
Therefore, USB keyboards and USB mice do not run usually (the BIOS of your
motherboard may feature USB support for a USB keyboard or mouse).
c) 1394
• When running digital video cameras with 1394 connection, the PC may crash if
the camera is turned off or switched to standby mode (e.g., when the battery is
empty).
Use the mains unit and not the battery when you operate the camcorder and
switch off your PC first and then the camera if this problem occurs.
• Some digital video cameras only provide video replay via the 1394 connection,
recording, however, is not possible. Observe your digital video camera's manual.
• When recording on so-called digital8 video cameras (which, according to their
manual, are capable of recording), video cutting programs may report a "write
protection error" etc.
This may be due to the video cassette used. Try and test the more expensive MP
cassette instead of an ordinary ME cassette. The cassette coding may be inter-
preted incorrectly by the video cutting software.
• Depending on the design of an external 1394 hard disk, it can be formatted or
partitioned via the MS-DOS commands FDISK and FORMAT or only via the soft-
ware belonging to the 1394 hard disk. Observe the manual of the 1394 device.
