Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Das Produkt ist zum Einbau in einen PC-kompatiblen Computer vorgesehen und
stellt dort sechs 1394-Schnittstellen zur Verfügung.

Einbau
Falls Sie keine Fachkenntnisse für den Einbau besitzen, so lassen
Sie den Einbau von einer FACHKRAFT oder einer entsprechenden
Fachwerkstatt durchführen!
Durch unsachgemässen Einbau wird sowohl die Steckkarte als
auch Ihr Computer und alle angeschlossenen Geräte beschädigt.
Vorsicht, Lebensgefahr!
Schalten Sie den Computer, in den die Steckkarte eingebaut wer-
den soll und alle angeschlossenen Geräte aus und trennen Sie
alle Geräte von der Netzspannung, ziehen Sie den Netzstecker!
Das Ausschalten über den Ein-/Ausschalter genügt nicht!
• Schrauben Sie das Gehäuse Ihres Computers auf und nehmen Sie den
Gehäusedeckel vorsichtig ab.
• Suchen Sie einen freien PCI-Steckplatz, entfernen Sie das zugehörige Slotblech
und stecken Sie die PCI-Karte in den PCI-Slot ein. Schrauben Sie die Steckkarte
fest, kontrollieren Sie den korrekten Sitz im PCI-Slot!
• Falls Sie zahlreiche 1394-Geräte (ohne eigene Stromversorgung/Netzteil!)
anstecken, so sollten Sie einen freien 3.5"-Stromstecker Ihres PC-Netzteils an den
Stromstecker der PCI-Karte anstecken. Achten Sie auf korrekten Anschluss und
stecken Sie den 3.5"-Stromstecker nicht mit Gewalt auf!
• Schrauben Sie den Computer wieder zu.
• Verbinden Sie Ihren Computer und Monitor wieder mit der Netzspannung und
schalten Sie alle Geräte ein.
• Startet Ihr Computer nicht korrekt, so schalten Sie ihn sofort wieder aus und kon-
trollieren Sie sämtliche Einstellungen und Kabelverbindungen.
Vor dem erneuten Öffnen des PCs ist der PC wieder von der Netzspannung zu tren-
nen, siehe oben!
Treiber-Installation
Die Treiber sind in Windows enthalten. Deshalb liegt auch keine Treiberdiskette
oder -CD bei!
Windows erkennt die Steckkarte automatisch. Folgen Sie allen Anweisungen von
Windows.
Windows 98SE/ME benötigt dann ggf. seine Installations-CD, um weitere
Komponenten zu installieren.
Eventuell ist danach erst ein Neustart nötig, bevor 1394- Geräte einwandfrei erkannt
werden.

Tipps & Hinweise
°
• Zum Betrieb der 1394-Karte ist mindestens Windows 98SE (Second Edition,
Zweite Ausgabe) erforderlich. Das normale Windows 98 oder gar Windows 95 ist
nicht in der Lage, den korrekten Betrieb mit 1394-Geräten sicherzustellen.
• Es ist belanglos, welchen der 1394-Ports Sie zuerst benutzen, da alle Anschlüsse
gleichberechtigt sind.
• 1394-Geräte erlauben das Ein- und Ausstecken während dem Betrieb. Sie brau-
chen also nicht Ihren PC ausschalten, wenn Sie Geräte ein- oder ausstecken wol-
len (bei anderen Schnittstellen kann dies zu Beschädigungen führen, z.B. wenn
Sie eine PS/2-Maus während dem Betrieb ein- oder ausstecken).
Finden jedoch Datenübertragungen auf dem 1394-Port statt, z.B. wenn eine
Videokamera Daten an den PC liefert, und Sie ziehen den 1394-Stecker heraus,
könnte das Anwendungsprogramm abstürzen und evtl. auch andere Daten
beschädigt werden!
Bei Windows ME erscheint bei manchen 1394-Geräten ein Icon mit einem
Doppelpfeil in der Menüleiste. Über diese Funktion können Sie das 1394-Gerät
vom PC "trennen", dem PC also mitteilen, dass er offene Dateien schließen soll.
• Beim Betrieb von Digital-Video-Kameras mit 1394-Anschluss kann der PC abstür-
zen, wenn die Kamera ausgeschaltet wird oder die Kamera in den Standby-Modus
umschaltet (z.B. wenn der Akku leer wird).
Verwenden Sie zum Betrieb der Kamera ein Netzteil anstelle des Kamera-Akkus
und schalten Sie die Kamera erst nach dem Ausschalten des PCs ab, wenn bei
Ihnen dieses Problem auftritt.
• Bei manchen Digital-Video-Kameras ist nur die Video-Wiedergabe über den 1394-
Anschluss möglich, jedoch keine Aufnahme. Beachten Sie die Anleitung zu Ihrer
Digital-Video-Kamera.
• Bei der Aufnahme von Video auf sog. Digital8-Video-Kameras (bei denen die
Aufnahme lt. Anleitung möglich ist) melden Videoschnitt-Programme möglicher-
weise einen "Schreibschutzfehler" o.ä.
Dies ist zurückzuführen auf die verwendete Videocassette. Benutzen Sie testweise
eine teurere MP-Cassette anstelle einer herkömmlichen ME-Cassette. Die
Codierung der Cassette wird u.U. vom Videoschnitt-Programm falsch ausgewer-
tet.
• Je nach Bauart einer externen 1394-Festplatte ist ein Formatieren/Partitionieren
mit den MS-DOS-Kommandos FDISK und FORMAT möglich oder nur mit der bei
der 1394-Festplatte mitgelieferten Software. Beachten Sie die Anleitung zu dem
1394-Gerät.

Proper Use
The product is designed to be built into a PC-compatible computer and there it pro-
vides six 1394 ports.

nected 1394 devices)
• The PCI card requires at least Windows 98 SE ("Second Edition")
Installation
If you do not have expert knowledge for the installation, you
should have the PCI card installed by QUALIFIED PERSONNEL or a
corresponding specialist dealer!
Improper installation will damage the plug-in card and your com-
puter and all connected devices.
Caution, Lethal Danger!
Switch off your computer into which you want to insert the sound
card and all connected devices and disconnect all devices from
the mains voltage, pull the mains cord! Switching off via the
mains switch does not suffice!
• Unscrew the housing of your computer and carefully remove the housing lid.
• Look for an empty PCI slot, remove the associated slot sheet and insert the PCI
card into the PCI slot and screw it tight. Make sure that the PCI card sits properly
in the slot!
• If you are using several 1394 devices (without their own power supply/power
pack!), you should plug in an empty 3.5" mains plug of your PC's power pack to
the mains socket of the PCI card. Make sure that the connection is made proper-
ly and do not attempt to attach in the 3.5" mains plug with force!
• Replace the housing of your computer and screw it tight.
• Reconnect your computer and monitor to the mains voltage and switch on all devi-
ces.
• If your computer does not start correctly, turn it off immediately and check all set-
tings and cable connections. Before you open the PC a second time, you must
disconnect it from the mains voltage, see above!
Installing the Drivers
The drivers are already included in Windows. Therefore, there is no drivers diskette
or CD-ROM attached!
Windows will detect the plug-in card automatically. Follow all instruction Windows
gives out.
Windows 98SE/ME may then need its installation CD-ROM to install further compo-
nents.
Afterwards, you may have to restart your computer before it detects the 1394 devi-
ces without trouble.

Tips & Hints
°
• Operating the 1394 card requires at least Windows 98SE (Second Edition). The
standard edition of Windows, let alone Windows 95, is not able to ensure the cor-
rect operation of the 1394 devices.
• It does not matter which one of the 1394 you use first as all ports have equality
of access.
• 1394 devices can be plugged during operation. Thus you don't have to turn off
your PC if you want to plug or unplug devices (other ports can take damage by this
e.g., if you plug/unplug a PS/2 during operation).
• If, however, data is being transmitted on the 1394 port e.g., when a video camera
transmits data to the PC and you pull the 1394 plug, the application program may
crash and also other data can be damaged!
• For some 1394 devices, Windows ME shows an icon with a double arrow on the
menu bar. You can use this symbol to disconnect the 1394 device from the PC i.e.,
tell the PC to close open files.
• When running digital video cameras with 1394 connection, the PC may crash if the
camera is turned off or switched to standby mode (e.g. when the battery is emp-
ty).
Use the power pack and not the battery when you operate the camcorder and
switch off first your PC and then the camera if this problem occurs.
• Some digital video cameras only provide video replay via the 1394 connection;
recording, however, is not possible. Observe your digital video camera's manual.
• When recording video on so-called Digital8 video cameras (which, according to
their manual are suitable for recording), video cutting programs may report a "wri-
te protection error" etc.
This may be due to the type of the video tape used. Try and test the more expen-
sive MP tape instead of an ordinary ME tape. The tape coding may be interpreted
incorrectly by the video cutting software.
• Depending on the design of an external 1394 hard disk, it can be formatted or par-
titioned via the MS-DOS commands FDISK and FORMAT or only via the software
belonging to the 1394 hard disk. Observe the manual of the 1394 device.
