Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Das Produkt ist zum Einbau in einen PCI-Slot eines PC-kompatiblen Computer vorgesehen und
stellt dort 1394-Schnittstellen zur Verfügung.

Konfiguration
Über die Steckbrücken "JP1" kann die Stromversorgung der 1394-Ports gewählt werden:
Position 1-2: Stromversorgung über PCI
Position 2-3: Stromversorgung über 3.5"-Stromanschluss (J4)
Einbau
Falls Sie keine Fachkenntnisse für den Einbau besitzen, so lassen Sie den
Einbau von einer FACHKRAFT oder einer entsprechenden Fachwerkstatt
durchführen!
Durch unsachgemäßen Einbau wird sowohl die Steckkarte als auch Ihr
Computer und alle angeschlossenen Geräte beschädigt.
Vorsicht, Lebensgefahr!
Schalten Sie den Computer, in den das Produkt eingebaut werden soll und alle
angeschlossenen Geräte aus und trennen Sie alle Geräte von der
Netzspannung, ziehen Sie den Netzstecker! Das Ausschalten über den Ein-
/Ausschalter genügt nicht!
• Schrauben Sie das Gehäuse Ihres Computers auf und nehmen Sie den Gehäusedeckel vor-
sichtig ab.
• Entfernen Sie ein Slotblech und stecken Sie die 1394-Karte in einen freien PCI-Steckplatz,
schrauben Sie sie fest. Kontrollieren Sie, ob die Steckkarte richtig im Steckplatz sitzt.
• Schrauben Sie den Computer wieder zu.
• Verbinden Sie Ihren Computer und Monitor wieder mit der Netzspannung und schalten Sie
alle Geräte ein.
• Startet Ihr Computer nicht korrekt, so schalten Sie ihn sofort wieder aus und kontrollieren Sie
sämtliche Einstellungen und Kabelverbindungen.
Vor dem erneuten Öffnen des PCs ist der PC wieder von der Netzspannung zu trennen, siehe
oben!
Treiber-Installation
Nach dem Start von Windows 98SE/ME/XP findet die Hardwareerkennung die 1394-Karte.
Folgen Sie allen Anweisungen von Windows.

Die benötigten Treiber sind in Windows enthalten, deshalb ist keine Treiber-CD im

Lieferumfang.
Software-Installation
Zum Zeitpunkt der Erstellung dieser Bedienungsanleitung lag die Software "Ulead Videostudio
5.0 DV-Edition" bei.
Die Software ist zum Betrieb der 1394-Karte nicht erforderlich!
Mit der Software können Videos von einer digitalen Videokamera mit 1394-Ausgang (bei Sony
"iLink" genannt) bearbeitet und geschnitten werden.
Falls Sie die Software installieren möchten, so legen Sie die CD in ein CD-ROM-Laufwerk Ihres
PCs ein.
Sollte die Installation nicht automatisch starten, so starten Sie das Programm "Setup.exe" im
Hauptverzeichnis der CD und folgen Sie allen Anweisungen.
Zum Aufzeichnen der bearbeiteten Videos ist eine Digital-Videokamera mit 1394-Eingang
nötig oder entsprechende andere Geräte.
Für die erfolgreiche Bildbearbeitung sollte Ihr PC nicht gerade ein 300MHz-Rechner mit
64MByte Speicher und einer 5GByte-Festplatte sein.
Jede Sekunde liefert die Digital-Videokamera einen Datenstrom von ca. 3-3.5MByte. Dies sind
pro Minute ca. 200MByte!
Für das Schneiden & Bearbeiten ist neben einer schnellen und grossen Festplatte auch eine
schnelle CPU für die Berechnung der Überblendeffekte erforderlich.
Selbstverständlich ist zum Bearbeiten von Videos auch jede beliebige andere Software geeig-
net, die eine 1394-Karte und die dort angeschlossene Videokamera unterstützt.
Tips & Hinweise
• Für vollständige Unterstützung der 1394-Schnittstelle müssen Sie "Windows 98 (Zweite
Ausgabe)" verwenden. Die ältere "normale" Windows 98-Version erkennt zwar die 1394-
Karte, hat aber Probleme beim Betrieb externer Geräte, z.B. 1394-Festplatten oder -CD-
Brennern.
Beachten Sie die Anleitungen zu Ihren 1394-Geräten.
• Zwar erlaubt der 1394-Standard, Geräte während dem Betrieb ein- und auszustecken (so
wie z.B. auch USB-Geräte), Sie sollten aber dabei beachten, dass geöffnete Dateien evtl.
beschädigt werden können.
• Beim Anschluss von Digital-Video-Kameras mit 1394-Anschluss kann Windows u.U. abstür-
zen, wenn die Kamera bei laufender Videoschnittsoftware ausgeschaltet wird bzw. der Akku
leer wird.
Dabei kann es sehr leicht zu Beschädigungen von Daten kommen.
Schalten Sie deshalb die Kamera erst nach dem Herunterfahren von Windows aus und ver-
wenden Sie beim Videoschnitt ein Netzteil für die Kamera.
• Bei manchen Digital-Video-Kameras ist nur die Video-Wiedergabe über den 1394-Anschluss
möglich, jedoch keine Aufnahme. Beachten Sie die Anleitung zu Ihrer Digital-Video-Kamera.
• Bei der Aufnahme von Video auf sog. Digital8-Video-Kameras (bei denen die Aufnahme lt.
Anleitung möglich ist) melden Videoschnitt-Programme
"Schreibschutzfehler" o.ä.
Dies ist zurückzuführen auf die verwendete Videocassette. Benutzen Sie testweise eine teu-
rere MP-Cassette anstelle einer herkömmlichen ME-Cassette. Die Codierung der Cassette
wird u.U. vom Videoschnitt-Programm falsch ausgewertet.
• Je nach Bauart einer externen 1394-Festplatte ist ein Formatieren/Partitionieren mit den
MS-DOS-Kommandos FDISK und FORMAT möglich oder nur mit der bei der 1394-Festplatte
mitgelieferten Software. Beachten Sie die Anleitung zu dem 1394-Gerät.
• Für 1394-Geräte ohne eigenes Netzteil liefert die 1394-Karte den Strom. Werden 1394-
Geräte mit höherem Strombedarf angeschlossen, stecken Sie bitte die beiden Steckbrücken
auf Position "2-3" um.
• Die 1394-Anschlüsse "Port 2" und "Port 3" der 1394-Karte (siehe Bild) sind miteinander ver-
bunden. Deshalb kann/darf nur einer der beiden Anschlüsse benutzt werden!

Prescribed Use
The product is to be installed in a PCI-slot of a PC-compatible computer and provides 1394-
interfaces.

Configuration
With the jumpers "JP1" the power supply of the 1394-ports may be chosen:
Position 1-2: power supply via PCI
Position 2-3: power supply via 3.5"-supply point (J4)
Installation
If you do not have any expertise for the installation have it done by an EXPERT

Improper installation damages the insert card as well as your computer and
all connected devices.
Caution, mortal danger!
Switch off the computer in which the product is to be installed and all con-
nected devices and separate it from the mains voltage, pull the mains plug out
of the socket! Switching them off at the on/off-switch is not sufficient!
• Unscrew the casing of your computer and remove carefully the covering of the casing.
• Remove one slot metal sheet and plug the 1394-card in a free PCI-insert, screw it down and
make sure the insert card is positioned correctly in the insert.
• Screw down the casing of your computer.
• Reconnect your computer and monitor to the mains voltage and switch on all devices.
• If your computer does not start correctly switch it off immediately and check all settings and
cable connections.
Prior to opening the PC once more the PC is to be separated from the mains voltage, see
above!
Driver Installation
After having started Windows 98SE/ME/XP the hardware recognition will find the 1394-card.
Follow all instructions of Windows.
The drivers required are all included in Windows, that is why no driver-CD is included in the
scope of delivery.
Software Installation

When these operating instructions were written the software "Ulead Videostudio 5.0 DV-
Edition" was included in the scope of delivery.
Version 04/02 This software is not necessary to operate the 1394-card!
With the software videos of a digital video camera with 1394-output port (Sony calls it "Link")
°
can be processed and cut.
If you wish to install the software insert the CD in a CD-ROM-running carriage of your com-
puter.
In case the installation does not start automatically start the programme "Setup.exe" in the
main dictionary of the CD and follow all instructions.
For recording the processed videos a digital video camera with 1394-input port or other cor-
responding devices are required.
For successful processing your PC should not be a 300MHz-computer with 64 Mbyte storage
capacity and a 5 Gbyte-hard disk.
Every second a digital video camera delivers a stream of app. 3-3.5 Mbyte. That are 200Mbyte
every minute!
Apart from a fast and large hard disk cutting and processing requires as well a CPU for the cal-
culation of the cross-fading effects.
Of course, any other software which supports a 1394-card and the connected video camera is
suitable for processing videos.
Tips & Notes
• The complete support of the 1394-interface requires "Windows 98 (Second Edition)". The
older "normal" version of Windows 98 recognises the 1394-card but has difficulties with
operating external devices, e.g. 1394-hard disks or 1394-CD-burners.
Observe the instructions of your 1394-devices.
• The 1394-standard allows plugging in and disconnecting devices during operation (like e.g.
USB-devices) but you should bear in mind that opened files might be damaged.
• When connecting digital video cameras with a 1394-connection Windows might crash if the
camera is switched off while the video processing software is still activated or the storage
battery is discharged.
This may easily cause the damage of data.
Therefore switch off the camera only after Window has driven down and use a mains unit for
the camera when working with the processing software.
• With some digital video cameras only the video reproduction is possible via the 1394-con-
nection but not the recording. Observe the instructions of your digital video camera.
• When recording from video to so-called Digital8 video cameras (which are suitable for
recording according to the instructions) possibly video processing programmes indicate a
"write protection error" or similar.
This results from the used video cassette. On a test basis use a more expansive MP-cassette
instead of the usual one. Possibly the encoding of the cassette is analysed incorrectly by the
video processing programme.
• Depending on the design of an external 1394-hard disk formatting/partitioning is possible
with the MS-DOS-commands FDISK and FORMAT or only with the software supplied with the
1394-hard disk. Observe the instructions of your 1394-device.
• For 1394-devices without an own mains unit the 1394-card will supply the power. If devices
of a higher current demand are connected please plug the two jumpers in position "2-3".
• The 1394-connections "Port 2" and "Port 3" of the 1394-card (see figure) are connected to
each other. Therefore only one of these connections may be used!
