Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Das Produkt ist zum Einbau in einen PC-kompatiblen Computer vorgesehen und
dient dort zum Anschluss an ein bestehendes Netzwerk.

Einbau
Falls Sie keine Fachkenntnisse für den Einbau besitzen, so lassen Sie
den Einbau von einer FACHKRAFT oder einer entsprechenden
Fachwerkstatt durchführen!
Durch unsachgemässen Einbau wird sowohl die Steckkarte als auch
Ihr Computer und alle angeschlossenen Geräte beschädigt.
Vorsicht, Lebensgefahr!
Schalten Sie den Computer, in den die Steckkarte eingebaut werden
soll und alle angeschlossenen Geräte aus und trennen Sie alle Geräte
von der Netzspannung, ziehen Sie den Netzstecker! Das Ausschalten
über den Ein-/Ausschalter genügt nicht!
• Schrauben Sie das Gehäuse Ihres Computers auf und nehmen Sie den
Gehäusedeckel vorsichtig ab.
• Suchen Sie einen freien PCI-Steckplatz, entfernen Sie das zugehörige Slotblech
und stecken Sie die PCI-Netzwerkkarte in den PCI-Slot ein. Schrauben Sie die
Steckkarte fest, kontrollieren Sie den korrekten Sitz im PCI-Slot!
• Schrauben Sie den Computer zu.
• Verbinden Sie Ihren Computer und Monitor mit der Netzspannung und schalten Sie
alle Geräte ein.
• Verbinden Sie die RJ45-Buchse der Netzwerkkarte über ein entsprechendes 1:1
durchverbundenes Kabel (CAT5) z.B. mit Ihrem Netzwerk-Hub bzw. Netzwerk-
Switch.
Eine direkte Verbindung zweier Netzwerkkarten (ohne Hub/Switch) ist über ein
spezielles gekreuztes Netzwerkkabel möglich.
• Startet Ihr Computer nicht korrekt, so schalten Sie ihn sofort aus und kontrollieren
Sie sämtliche Einstellungen und Kabelverbindungen.
Vor dem erneuten Öffnen des PCs ist der PC von der Netzspannung zu
trennen, siehe oben!
Treiber-Installation
Windows ME bzw. Windows XP haben eigene Treiber für die Netzwerkkarte.
Bei älteren Windows 9x-Versionen (95/98/98SE) legen Sie den mitgelieferten
Datenträger in das entsprechende Laufwerk Ihres PCs ein und folgen Sie allen
Anweisungen von Windows.
Windows 9x benötigt dann ggf. seine Installations-CD, um weitere Netzwerk-
komponenten zu installieren.
Tipps & Hinweise
• Wenn Sie für Ihr Netzwerk einen eigenen Netzwerk- oder Systemadministrator
haben (etwa in einer größeren Firma), so lassen Sie IHN Anschluss und
Verkabelung übernehmen, bauen Sie die Netzwerkkarte nicht selbst ein und ver-
binden Sie die Netzwerkkarte nicht mit dem Netzwerk.
• Die angegebene Datenübertragungsrate von 10 bzw. 100MBit pro Sekunde wird
normalerweise nicht erreicht. Übertragungsfehler, gleichzeitige Zugriffe mehrerer
Computer, Zugriffe auf die Festplatte (Lesen auf dem einen Rechner, Schreiben
auf dem anderen) usw. verringern diesen theoretischen Wert. Praktisch sind

effektive Datenübertragungsraten bei 100MBit bis etwa einige MByte/s erreich-

bar, bei 10MBit bis 800kByte/s.
• Bei Windows95/98 kann es etwas dauern, bis die Rechner im Netzwerk sichtbar
werden. Wenn Sie die Rechner eingeschaltet haben und Windows auf allen
Rechnern nach ein paar Sekunden geladen ist, können Sie in der Regel nicht sofort
einen anderen Rechner zugreifen. Beim Doppelklick auf "Netzwerkumgebung"
kann z.B. die Meldung kommen "...Das Netzwerk kann nicht durchsucht wer-
den...". Es kann unter bestimmten Umständen bis zu zwei Minuten dauern, bis
weitere Rechner erscheinen.
Um Laufwerke und Verzeichnisse für andere Rechner freizugeben, muss die
"Datei- und Druckerfreigabe" aktiviert sein. Sie finden Sie z.B. in der
Systemsteuerung unter "Netzwerk". Wie die Option schon sagt, können Sie auch
Ihren Drucker für die anderen Rechner auf dem Netzwerk freigeben, d.h. es
braucht nicht mehr an jedem PC ein Drucker angeschlossen sein. Auch große
Dateien können dann bequem auf einen anderen PC umkopiert werden.
• Bei Windows 98 wird das IPX-Netzwerkprotokoll nicht installiert. Ältere Spiele, die
ein IPX-Protokoll benötigen, laufen also nicht!
Sie müssen erst von Hand in der Systemsteuerung/Netzwerk "Hinzufügen"
anklicken, dann "Protokoll" und beim "Hersteller: Microsoft" das "IPX-Netzwerk"
auswählen und installieren.
• Wenn der Rechnerstart bei Windows 98 nun auf einmal viel länger dauert, so liegt
das daran, dass Windows 98 standardmäßig das "TCP/IP"-Protokoll installiert.
Dabei ist als Grundeinstellung die Option eingestellt "IP-Adresse automatisch
beziehen". Sie finden diese unter "Systemsteuerung"/"Netzwerk" und dann im
Fenster "Die folgenden Netzwerkkomponenten sind installiert:". Wählen Sie hier
"TCP/IP-> xxxx" (xxxx steht für den Namen der Netzwerkkarte). Nach einem
Mausklick auf "Eigenschaften" erscheint die o.g. Option.
Klicken Sie auf "IP-Adresse festlegen" und geben Sie z.B. eine fiktive IP-Adresse
ein, z.B. 192.168.1.1, den zweiten PC stellen Sie auf 192.168.1.2 ein, den dritten
auf 192.168.1.3 usw.
Die ersten drei Zahlen (das "192.168.1") sind auf allen PCs gleich zu wählen.
Im Eingabefeld "Subnet-Mask" (unter dem Eingabefeld für die IP-Adresse) geben
Sie bei allen PCs 255.255.255.0 ein.
• Trennen Sie die RJ45-Kabelverbindung sicherheitshalber nur bei ausgeschalte-
tem PC. Durch geöffnete Dateien (wenn z.B. ein anderer PC auf Ihren PC zugreift)
könnte es sonst zu Datenverlust kommen.
• Die LED "LINK" leuchtet bei korrekter RJ45-Netzwerkverkabelung; die LED "ACT"
blinkt, wenn Daten übertragen werden.

Prescribed use
The product is designed for integration in a PC-compatible computer and serves for
connecting an existing network cable there.

Installation
If you do not have any expert knowledge about the installation you
should have the installation carried out by an SPECIALIST or a spe-
cialized workshop.
Improper installation can damage the card, your computer and all the
connected devices.
Warning, danger!
Switch off the computer into which you want to insert the card and all
the connected devices and disconnect the devices from the mains
voltage, pull the plug! It is not sufficient to switch off the device with
the I/O switch.
• Screw the housing of your computer open and carefully take off the lid.
• Select a free PCI socket, remove the respective slot cover and insert the PCI net-
work card into the PCI slot. Screw down the insert card, make sure it is inserted
correctly into the PCI slot.
• Screw down the computer lid.
• Connect your computer monitor to the mains voltage and switch on all the devices.
• Connect the RJ45 socket of the network card via a 1:1 cable with sheaths connec-
ted across the joints (CAT5) to your network hub or network switch for example.
A direct connection of two network cards (without hub/switch) is possible via a
special network cable with transposed conductor.
• If your computer does not start correctly, switch it off immediately and check all
the settings and cable connections.
Before you open the PC again, it must be disconnected from the mains
voltage, see above.
Driver installation
Windows ME and Windows XP have their own drivers for the network card.
If you have an older Windows 9x version (95/98/98SE), insert the enclosed data car-
rier into the corresponding disk drive of your PC and follow the Windows instruc-
tions.
Windows 9x may need its installation CD in order to install further network compo-
nents.
Tips & notes
• If you have your own network or system administrator for your network (e.g. in a
bigger company), HE should do the connecting and cabling, do not connect the
network card yourself and do not connect the network card to the network.
• The indicated maximum transmission rate of 10 or 100 MBit per second (approx.
1 or 10MByte/s), will not be reached, since, during data transmission over the net-
work cable, not only data are transferred but also protocol information etc., data
blocks must be repeated or several computers need simultaneous access.
Furthermore, data must be read from one computer, and written on the hard disk
of another computer. In practice, with 10 MBit a data transmission rate of up to
about 800 kBytes/sec. are possible.
• With Windows95/98 it may take some time until the computers can be seen in the

network. When you have switched on the computers and Windows has been

loaded on all the computers after a few seconds, you normally cannot access
another computer immediately. For example the message "...the network cannot
be found..." may appear when you double-click on "network neighborhood". It
may take up to two minutes under certain circumstances until any further com-
puters appear.
In order to enable disks and directories for other computers the option "enable file
and printers" must be activated. You will find it in the control panel under "net-
work". As the option tells you, you can enable your printer for the other comput-
ers in the network, i.e. you do not need to connect a printer to every PC. Even large
files can be easily copied from one PC to another.
• In Windows 98, the popular and easy IPX network protocol will not be installed.
Older games requiring an IPX protocol, do not function.
In the control panel/network, you must click to "add", then to "protocol" and under
"manufacturer: Microsoft" select and install the "IPX network.
• If a computer start-up with Windows 98 takes much longer now, this is due to fact
that Windows 98 installs the "TCP/IP" protocol as standard.
The basic setting is the option "obtain the IP address automatically". You will find
it under "control panel"/"network" and then in the window. "The following net-
work components are installed:". Select "TCP/IP-> xxxx" (xxxx replaces the name
of the network card). After clicking on "properties" you will see the above option.
Click on "enter IP address" and enter a fictive IP address, e.g. 192.168.1.1, set the
second PC to 192.168.1.2, the third one to 192.168.1.3 etc.
The first three numbers ("192.168.1") must be the same for all the PCs.
Please always set the "subnet mask" (in the same window as the IP address) to
255.255.255.0.
• For safety reasons, only disconnect the RJ45 cable when the PC is switched off.
Otherwise you could lose data when there are files opened.
• The LED "LINK" will light up when the RJ45 network cabling is correct; the LED
"ACT" will flash during data transmission.
