Motion Switch 360°
with corner base
Item no. 55 13 18
Intended use
The PIR sensor integrated in the motion switch responds to temperature changes within the detection range,
e.g. if a person, a large animal or a car enters the detection area.
For this reason, the motion switch can be used for monitoring entrances, driveways, staircases, etc.
The motion switch' output, for example, can be used for controlling a light or another powered device. Please
refer to the section "Technical Data".
The motion switch can be mounted on either a vertical wall, a vertical building corner (with the provided
corner base) or on the room ceiling.
Any other use than that described above may damage the product. Moreover, this may give rise to hazards
such as short-circuiting, fi re, electric shock, etc. No part of the product may be modifi ed or converted!
Always observe the safety instructions in these operating instructions. Please read the operating instructions
carefully and keep them.
This product complies with the applicable National and European requirements. All names of companies and
products are the trademarks of the respective owner. All rights reserved.

The product is designed for operation outdoors.
The product complies with the protection class II.
Safety Instructions
Read the complete operating manual carefully before using the product as it contains
important information about the correct installation and operation.
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe these safety
instructions! We do not assume any liability for any consequential damage!
Nor do we assume any liability for material and personal damage caused by improper use
or non-compliance with the safety instructions! The warranty will be void in such cases!
Caution!
This product may only be installed by a qualifi ed technician (e.g., an electrician) who is
familiar with the relevant regulations (e.g., VDE, German electrical wiring regulations)!
Improper work, carried out on the mains voltage, endangers not only your own life but
also the life of others!
If you do not have the expertise required for the installation, do not install it yourself but
ask a qualifi ed technician.
• The unauthorised conversion and/or modifi cation of the product is not allowed for safety and
approval reasons (CE).
• The product is not a toy and must be kept out of the reach of children! There is the risk of a
fatal electric shock!
• The product may only be operated on the mains voltage (see section „Technical Data"). Never
try to operate the product at another voltage as this will cause its destruction.
• The product is constructed according to protection class II.
• The product may be mounted in indoor and outdoor areas (protection type IP55). Please refer
to the section „Mounting".
• Only use the product when it is fi rmly mounted/steady.
• Do not use the motion switch in rooms, or in adverse ambient conditions, where combustible
gases, vapours or dust are or may be present! There is a risk of explosion!

Preparations for Installation
• Without fail, pay attention to the correct mounting position for the motion detector; it must only be mounted
so that the hemispherical PIR sensor points downwards.
• Only install the motion detector on a stable surface, e.g. brickwork. Depending on the surface, suitable
screws and plugs should be used.
• The motion switch must be installed and used out of the reach of children.
• The power supply line for the motion detector must be protected by a 10/16A fuse on the building-side
sub-distribution. An earth leakage circuit breaker must be installed before this (FI protective switch).
• The motion switch must be voltage-free during installation.
Turn the power off and remove the electric circuit fuse or switch off the circuit breaker. Secure it against
unauthorised reconnection, e.g., with a danger sign.
Furthermore, turn off the earth leakage circuit breaker in order to disconnect all the poles of the mains
supply.
• Check that the mains connection is free of current e.g. with an appropriate tester.
Function of the motion switch
The PIR sensor integrated in the motion switch responds to temperature changes within the detection range,
e.g. if a person or an animal, with a temperature different from the background, enters the detection area.
To ensure optimum detection, the motion switch must be placed so that the object to be detected does not
approach the motion switch directly but rather passes through the detection area from left to right or vice
versa. Keep this in mind, when installing the product.
The triangular detection area can be adjusted by turning the hemispherical PIR sensor (clicking noises can
be heard during turning due to an integrated catch).
The range for detecting motion is determined by several factors:
• The motion switch's installation height
• The temperature difference between the moving object and the background (ambient)
• The size of the object
• Distance of the object from the motion switch
• Direction and speed of the movement
• Ambient temperature
After switching on the mains voltage, it takes about 60 seconds until the PIR sensor in the motion detector
has adjusted to the background temperature and is able to recognise changes in temperature within the
detection area.
The detection range can be restricted by covering the diffusion panel of the motion switch with an opaque
cover. This can be tailored accordingly:
• The product must not be exposed to extreme temperatures, strong vibrations or heavy me-
chanical loads.
• Never direct a jet of water (e.g. for cleaning) from a garden hose, high-pressure cleaner, or
similar onto the motion detector!
• If you have reason to assume that safe operation is no longer possible, disconnect the product
immediately and secure it against inadvertent operation. Let an expert check the product.
A safe operation can no longer be assumed, if:
- the product shows visible signs of damage,
- the product does not work at all or well (fl ickering light, leaking smoke or a smell of burning, the
light fl ickers, audible cracking noises, discolouration to the product or the adjacent surfaces.)
- the device was stored for a longer period of time in unfavourable conditions
- it was exposed to heavy loads during transport
• Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around since it could become a dangerous
plaything for children.
• In commercial institutions, the accident prevention regulations of the Employer's Liability In-
surance Association for Electrical Systems and Operating Facilities are to be observed!
• If you have any questions that are not answered in this manual, please contact our technical
service or another specialist.
The motion detector may be installed only by a qualifi ed technician (e.g. electrician) who
is familiar with the relevant regulations (e.g. VDE, German electrical wiring regulations)!
Improper work, carried out on the mains voltage, endangers not only your own life but
also the life of others!
If you do not have the expertise required for the installation, do not install it yourself but
ask a qualifi ed technician.
If this mounting position is not observed, water might penetrate the motion detector; danger of a
fatal electric shock!
