4.2 Rear panel

9 100 V speaker terminals for five speaker
zones;
always observe the instructions in chapter 4.3!
10 XLR jack (bal.) of the inputs INPUT 2 and
INPUT 3 for microphones, as an alternative
to the 6.3 mm jacks (18) for microphones and
the RCA jacks (19) for units with line level
output
11 Button PHANTOM POWER to activate the
48 V phantom power for the XLR jacks (10)
Caution! When the phantom power has
been activated, do not connect any micro-
phone with unbalanced output to the corre-
sponding XLR jack (10); this microphone
may be damaged.
12 Control GAIN to adjust the amplification
(microphone sensitivity) for the XLR micro-
phone inputs (10)
13 Mains jack for connection to a socket (230 V~ /
50 Hz) via the mains cable provided
14 Support for the mains fuse
Always replace a blown fuse by one of the
same type.
15 Terminal strip for speakers to be switched on
permanently, i. e. not to be switched on and
off via the buttons ZONES (6); always observe
the instructions in chapter 4.3!
16 Line level input EM INPUT (screw terminals)
for important announcements
With a signal present at this input, the signals
of the inputs INPUT 2 to INPUT 5 (10, 18, 19,
20) will be faded out.
17 Control MUTE LEVEL to adjust the level of
volume attenuation (0 – 30 dB) for the inputs
INPUT 2 to INPUT 5 (10, 18, 19, 20) when an
announcement is made via the input MIC 1 (2)
18 6.3 mm jacks (unbal.) of the inputs INPUT 2
and INPUT 3 for microphones, as an alterna-
tive to the XLR jacks (10) for microphones
and the RCA jacks (19) for units with line level
output
19 RCA jacks of the inputs INPUT 2 and INPUT 3
to connect audio units with line output (MP3 /
CD player, radio, tape deck, etc.), as an alter-
native to the microphone inputs (10, 18)
20 RCA jacks of the inputs INPUT 4 and INPUT 5
to connect audio units with line output
(MP3/CD player, radio, tape deck, etc.)
21 Line output OUTPUT for the mixed signal
to connect, for example, an additional ampli-
fier if more speakers are required than the
PA-312Z can handle
4.3 Important notes for
connecting the speakers
Only use one of the four types of connection
described below; otherwise the amplifier may be
damaged! Overload will activate the protective
circuit: The LED PROT (7) will light up and the
speakers will be muted.
1. Connect 100 V speakers to be switched on
and off via the buttons ZONES (6) to the ter-
minal strip ZONES OUTPUT (9), see figure 3.
The maximum speaker load for the amplifier
is 120 W
.
RMS
2. Connect 70 V speakers or 100 V speakers
to be switched on permanently to the termi-
nals 70 V or 100V and COM of the terminal
strip OUTPUT (15), see figure 4 or 5. The
maximum speaker load for the amplifier is
120 W
.
RMS
3. Connection types 1 and 2 may be combined
if the speakers connected do not exceed the
load of 120 W
. Other combinations are
RMS
not allowed; the amplifier may be damaged.
4. Connect a speaker or a speaker group with a
total impedance of at least 4 Ω to the termi-
nals "4-16 Ω" and "COM" of the terminals strip
OUTPUT (15). The speaker is / the speakers
are permanently switched on. Figures 6 to 9
show various ways to observe the minimum
impedance. However, there are also other
possibilities.
Each of the two terminal strips (9, 15) is provided
with a transparent cover as there is a hazard of
contact. To connect the speakers, fold up the
corresponding cover.
WARNING Always fold down the covers of
the terminal strips (9, 15) when
operating the amplifier. A danger-
ous high voltage is present at the
terminals; you will risk an electric
shock if you touch them.
