Safety notices
Attention
Read these operating instructions carefully before putting the device into service!
These photoelectric sensors may not be used in applications where personal safety
depends on proper function of the device
(not safety designed per EU machine guideline).
Documentation
All entries in this operating manual must be heeded, in particular those in section 2. Carefully store this
technical description. It should be accessible at all times.
Safety regulations
Observe the locally applicable legal regulations and the rules of the employer's liability insurance asso-
ciation.
Qualified personnel
Mounting, commissioning and maintenance of the device must only be carried out by qualified
personnel. Electrical work must be carried out by a certified electrician.
Application
Only for NFPA 79 applications (machines with a supply voltage of maximum 600 volts).
Device shall be connected only by using any CYJV/CYJV7 (PVVA/PVVA7) cord, having
suitable ratings.
Repair
Repairs must only be carried out by the manufacturer or an authorized representative.
Attention
The protection of personnel and the device cannot be guaranteed if the device is operated
in a manner not corresponding to its intended use. Optical distance sensors of the BOD
series are intelligent, adjustable sensors with CMOS element for distance measuring.
In particular, unauthorized use includes: rooms with explosive atmospheres, operation for
medical purposes.
Areas of application
The optical distance sensors of the BOD 24K-L series have been designed for the following areas of
application:
– Height and width measurement as well as determination of diameter
– Contour measurement of moving objects
– Positioning of actuators and robots
– Filling level measurement
– Quality assurance in assembly lines
Laser distance sensors BOD 24K-L...-S92
Laser safety regulations:
The transmitter operates with a red light laser of class 2 acc. to EN 60825-1:2007 and
IEC 60825-1:2007.
If you look into the beam path over a longer time period, the retina of your eye may be damaged! Never
look directly into the beam path!
Do not point the laser beam of the BOD 24K-L at persons! When mounting and aligning the
BOD 24K-L, take care to avoid reflections of the laser beam off reflective surfaces!

CAUTION! Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified
herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure! The use of optical instruments or devices in combi-
nation with the device increases the danger of eye damage! Adhere to the applicable legal and local
regulations regarding protection from laser beams acc. to EN/IEC 60825-1:2007.
The BOD 24K-L uses a laser diode with low power in the visible red light range with an emitted wave-
length of about 650 nm.
The glass optics cover is the only opening through which the laser radiation can escape from the
device. The housing of the BOD 24K-L is sealed and has no parts that need to be adjusted or main-
tained by the user. The device must not be tampered with and must not be changed in any way! The
destruction of the seal voids the warranty!
Radiated power
The BOD 24K-L uses a laser diode with low power in the visible light range. The emitted wavelength is
650 nm. The peak output power of the laser beam is 1.2 mW. The radiated power observed at a
distance of 20 cm through an aperture of 7 mm and averaged over a period of 1000 s is less than 1mW
acc. to the CDRH Class II specification.

Indicators and operational controls
During measurement operation, the LC display shows the distance value.
The short-stroke keys to the right of the display are used for adjusting the BOD 24K via a graphical
menu.
The yellow LED indicates the "active" state of switching output 1.
The green LED indicates the ready state of the sensor.
A flashing yellow and/or the green LED signals a teach-in event.
Measurement value display
After switching on the supply voltage +U
and following error-free initialization of the device, the green
B
LED illuminates continuously; the BOD 24K is in measurement mode.
In measurement mode, the current measurement value is displayed in the display,
e.g. 225 mm.
If no object is detected or if the signal is too weak, No Signal appears in the display.
Menu operation

On the BOD 24K, the short-stroke keys (icon T and
) to the right of the display are operated using
a pointed object, ideally a ball-point pen.

In menu view, the display has two lines. The T and
buttons both have different functions depending
on the operating situation. These functions are represented via icons on the right edge of the display –
i.e. to the immediate left of the buttons.

Reset to factory settings

Press the
button while switching on the device to reset the configuration of the BOD 24K to the state
upon delivery from the factory.

Press the
button again to reset all parameters to the factory settings. All settings made previously
are permanently lost. Press T, and the BOD 24K returns to measurement operation without resetting
the parameters.
You can also select the option of resetting to factory settings via the menu.

It is also possible to invert the working range of the analog output, i.e., the selected value of the lower
range limit is larger than that of the upper range limit. This creates a descending characteristic output
curve.
NOTE!
The adjustable range limits are dependent on the selected device type and must lie within the sensor's
working range. The check to determine whether the entered values are plausible and valid is performed
after the upper and lower limits are entered. Invalid values cannot be saved. You can either change the
