Making coffee...

8.1 ...with coffee beans

When the appliance is ready for operation,
turn the coffee bean container (2) to the
position for coffee-bean operation, Fig. D.
Remove the coffee bean container lid and fill
with fresh beans. Only fill the container with
coffee beans and no higher than a max. of
1 cm under the rim of the container. This is
to stop the container possibly spilling when
adjusting for the bean type.
Tip: This appliance is fitted with the Bean Select
two-chamber bean container. Each chamber
can hold some 100 g of coffee beans. To enjoy
the full variety, fill one chamber with e.g.
espresso beans and the second one with café
crème beans. You can mark the kind of coffee
by placing the supplied sticker on the bean
container.
Then firmly replace the lid on the container.
Select the desired coffee by setting the bean
container switch (3) appropriately. The bean
selector switch points to the chamber
supplying the beans.
Pointer: Fig. E When setting the bean selector
switch, the shape of the coffee beans might
cause some beans to get stuck. These beans
can be freed and the knob shifted by turning
the bean selector switch again and moving the
beans about in the container. If the bean selector
switch is set in a vertical position when brewing,
this will prevent beans from getting into the
grinder. The result will be a watery coffee.
Since some coffee beans always remain above
the grinder, switching over to a different bean
type produces intermixing in the first cup of
coffee.
23
If you want to be sure of getting a pure cup of
coffee, we would advise brewing a small cup
of coffee first and throwing it away. The second
cup after switching over will then be exactly as
requested – this is particularly important when
using decaffeinated coffee blends and for users
who may be allergic to caffeine.
1 or 2 cups can be selected by turning the
function controller (21). Selection determines
whether the "1 or 2 cup symbol" lights up.
Now place one or two cups under the height-
adjustable coffee outlet (13), Fig. F.
The brewing strength is continuously variable
from very mild to very strong. Select your
desired brewing strength (according to the
bar display (25)) using the brewing strength
regulator (19). The brewing strength bar rises
when the brewing strength regulator is turned
in a clockwise direction.
Any quantity of water between 15 – 200 ml
can be set. Select the quantity of water
(according to the bar display (24)) using the
water quantity regulator (20). The water
quantity bar rises when the water quantity
regulator is turned in a clockwise direction.
After making your selection, press the start
key (23). Re-pressing the start key will stop
coffee being dispensed.
Actual coffee consumption is between 6–16 g.
This depends on the amount of water used
and the strength of the coffee.

8.2 ...with ground coffee

With the appliance ready for use, turn the
coffee bean container (2) to the position for
ground coffee operation, Fig. G. The brewing
strength display is extinguished.
Should there be any beans in the ground
coffee chute (1), they will be stuck between
the housing and the ground coffee chute. You
can remove these beans by setting the bean
selector switch to the mid-position and
removing the coffee bean container (2),
Fig. H, I.
Take off the chute lid for ground roasted coffee
and put in fresh ground coffee.
Use a level scoop to dose for one or two cups
of coffee.
Dose to select the desired brewing strength.

Grinder

The grinder default setting is an average one
and suitable for most kinds of coffee. If you
wish, you can use the lever (4) under the bean
container to change this setting. Only change
fineness when the grinder is running. Move
the lever to the left for finer grinding and to
the right for coarser grinding, Fig. K.
Tip: As a rule, the finer the coffee is ground the
more intensive it tastes. In order to fully enjoy
the coffee aromas, we recommend always
choosing the finest grinder setting.
Unfortunately, even with the best coffee blends,
you may still find minute stones amongst the
beans. A stone in the grinder will give off a
loud noise. In this case, shut down the
coffeemaker straight away and remove the
stone. Proceed as follows:
Pointer: Fig. J Never put in more than 2 level
scoops of ground roasted coffee so as not to
overfill the brewing chamber. Only ground
coffee may be used. Instant coffee might clog
up the brewing unit.
Replace the lid on the chute. 1 or 2 cups
can be selected by turning the function
controller (21). Selection determines whether
the "1 or 2 cup symbol" lights up. Now place
the cup or cups under the height-adjustable
coffee outlet (13), Fig. F.
Any quantity of water between 15 – 200 ml
can be set. Select the quantity of water
(according to the bar display (24)) using the
water quantity regulator (20). The water
quantity bar rises when the water quantity
regulator is turned in a clockwise direction.
After making your selection, press the start
key (23). Re-pressing the start key will stop
coffee being dispensed.
½ Shut down the appliance and pull out the
plug.
½ Fig. E Lock the beans chamber by turning
the bean selector switch (3) to the mid-
position.
½ Fig. H, I Turn the container (2) to the removal
position and remove.
½ Fig. L Turn the lever for setting the grinding
fineness (4) anticlockwise till it stops.
½ Fig. L Now take out the grinding cone and
remove the stone.
½ Re-assemble the grinder in the reverse order.
½ When replacing the grinding cone, please
ensure that the guides snap firmly into place.
