To clean and descale the machine use exclusively Saeco maintenance products.
These products can be purchased in the Philips online shop (if available in your
country) at www.shop.philips.com/service, from your local reseller or from the
authorised service centres.
Should it prove difficult to find the machine maintenance products, please contact the
nearest Philips Saeco hotline in your country. Contacts are included in the warranty
booklet supplied separately or can be found at www.saeco.com/support.

The SAECO AquaClean water filter purifies the water your machines uses for
brewing coffee. This results in a greater coffee taste. Moreover it prevents mineral
deposits in the water to build up, which eliminates the need of descaling your machine
for 5000* products!
How does the system work?
We recommend you to install the AquaClean water filter at first usage of the machine.
After a period of uses the machine will indicate when the filter needs to be replaced.
In this way you can replace the filter 8 times without the need for descaling. T his equals
approx. 5000* products!
Note: It is however recommended to replace each filter at least after 3 months usage.
After having replaced the filter for the 8th time the machine will ask for descaling.
If you don't install the filter right away upon 1st usage, the machine will ask you to
descale after you have brewed approx 50* products.
(*) based on 100ml cups.
Remove the AquaClean water filter from its packaging, immerse it vertically in cold
water, with the opening upwards, and slightly press the sides to let air bubbles out.
Insert the AquaClean water filter in the empty water tank. You can leave the small
water filter installed.
Push the AquaClean water filter to the lowest possible point.
Fill the water tank with fresh water and restore it to the machine.
Dispense half the water contained in the tank as detailed in the "6.5.1 Hot water
dispensing" chapter.
Fill the water tank again.
Machine setting phase during the installation
Press the MENU button, confirm by pressing the OK button and scroll the menu to
go to the 'AquaClean Filter function'.
Press the OK button to select the function.
The machine will indicate the number of filters which have been used from 0 up to
8 filters.
Press the OK button to confirm the activation otherwise
Press the ESC button to exit the programming function.
The machine automatically exits the programming mode if no button is pressed for
3 minutes.
