2 Safety Notes

The unit corresponds to the directive for electromag-
netic compatibility 89/336/EEC.
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect it
against dripping water and splash water, high air
humidity, and very high and low temperatures
(admissible ambient temperature range -10 °C to
+55 °C).
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, by no means
chemicals or water.
If the unit is used for purposes other than originally
intended, if it is not correctly connected or oper-
ated, or not repaired in an expert way, there is no
liability for possible damage.
If the transmitter is to be put out of operation defini-
tively, take it to a local recycling plant for disposal
which is not harmful to the environment.
3 Applications
In combination with a 5.8 GHz receiver of the
AV-58..R.. series of MONACOR, the transmitter
AV-5840TX serves for wireless audio and video trans-
mission. For setting up a wireless video surveillance
system, merely a video camera and a monitor are
additionally required.
The transmission range largely depends on the
local conditions and the receiver used. The maximum
range is reached when there are no obstacles be-
tween transmitter and receiver. However, in buildings
the range is reduced by walls and ceillings depending
on their condition.

3.1 Approval
According to the R+TTE regulation (Radio and Tele-
communication Technical Equipment) the approval
for the transmitter AV-5840TX is valid in the countries
of the European Union. For operation outside the EU,
please contact your retailer or the MONACOR sub-
sidiary in the country where this unit will be operated.

4 Setting into Operation

4.1 Placing the transmitter and receiver
Practical experience has shown that an optimum
reception is achieved when placing the units at a
height of minimum 1.5 m to 2 m above the ground.
Prior to final mounting, a trial run is recommended as
the transmission quality can be substantially changed
by displacing the receiver and the transmitter by a few
centimetres only.
4.2 Connecting the units
Prior to the connection of units, switch them off.
Always connect the power supply for the transmitter
last. When changing existing connections, first dis-
connect the power supply for the transmitter and
switch off any connected units.
4.2.1 Surveillance camera or signal source
1) Connect the video output of the camera or signal
source via a 75 Ω coaxial cable to the jack "video
in" (8). The level of the video signal must be 1 Vpp
according to standard.
2) For audio transmission, feed the audio signal of the
camera or signal source via a screened audio cable
to the jack "audio A in" (9) and in case of stereo
transmission in addition to the jack "audio B in" (10).
The input sensitivity for the audio signals can
be adjusted with the control "audio level" (4) – see
chapter 4.3.3.
4.2.2 Control channel/motion detector
If the receiver used is equipped with a control chan-
nel, it is possible to activate an optical or acoustical
signal device or another additional unit connected to
the receiver via this channel (e. g. video recorder for
automatic start of a recording). At the transmitter the
