Spark plug cap
Firmly connect the cable cap (1) to the spark plug
(2), making sure that there are no traces of debris
or dirt inside the cap or on the spark plug terminal.
5.2
STARTING THE ENGINE (cold)
The engine must only be started when all the ac-
cessory devices are disconnected (if fitted on the
machine) and when the gear (where fitted) is in
neutral.
a) Set the machine controls as indicated in the
machine's Instructions Manual.
b) • Engines with throttle:
Move the throttle (1) to «CHOKE»;
or
• Fixed speed engines:
Press the «PRIMER» device button (2) 3 times
to prime the carburettor.
c) Hold the starter rope grip (3) and pull it slowly
until you feel some resistance, then tug the
starter rope hard.
d) When the engine starts, let go of the rope.
NOTE
mediately, repeat the above steps.
e) • Engines with throttle:
After a few seconds, slowly move the throttle (1)
from «CHOKE» to either «FAST» or «SLOW».
NOTE
does not keep running, repeat the above steps
with the throttle on «FAST».

STARTING THE ENGINE (hot starting)
Follow the indicated procedure for cold start, only
changing point b) as follows:
b) • Engines with throttle:
Move the throttle (1) to «FAST»;
or
• Fixed speed engines:
DO NOT OPERATE the «PRIMER» device but-
ton (2).

USE OF THE ENGINE
Optimal conditions of use are achieved with the en-
gine at maximum rpm with the throttle (if installed)
in the «FAST» position.

STOPPING THE ENGINE

• When working
a) Move the throttle (1) (if installed) to «SLOW».
b) Stop the engine as described in the machine's
instructions manual.
• In addition, when you have finished work:
c) When the engine is cold, disconnect the spark
plug (2).
d) Remove all traces of debris or dirt from the en-
gine and especially around the exhaust silencer
to reduce the risk of fire.

CLEANING AND STORAGE

a) Do not spray with water or use hydraulic lances
to clean the exterior of the engine.
b) Preferably use a compressed air gun (max. 6
bars), to prevent debris, dirt or dust from pen-
etrating inside the machine.
5.7

LONG STORAGE

In the event of engine disuse over 30 days, it is rec-
ommended to take some precautions to ensure it
will be in good conditions the next time you want to
use it.
a) Start the engine and run it until it comes to a halt,
so that it uses up all the fuel that is left in the tank
and in the carburettor, to prevent deposits form-
ing inside.
• In addition, at season's change:
b) Complete all the operations indicated in the
"Maintenance Schedule" (see 6.2).
c) Slowly pull the starter cable until you feel a cer-
tain resistance due to both valves closing to pro-
tect internal engine parts from dust and corro-
sion.
