6.3. Choosing a ventilator
Only ventilators which fulfil technical specifications defined in the VDMA unity-
sheet 24169 part 1 (German Engineering Federation) are allowed to be used. The
ventilator's engine underlies no special regulations if it is out of air flow reach. Does
the safety cabinet not stand within an explosion-risk area then according to VDMA it
is an "Inside the exhaust air duct: zone 2 outside: non-explosion-risk area".
The engine has to be protected against explosion risk if the cabinet is within an
explosion-risk area.
Check before installation of the ventilator whether your local electric current is
suitable for operation. The ventilator has to be connected and measured by an
electric expert. The measure results are to be documented.
6.4. Operation without technical ventilation
According to TRbF 20, appendix L, clause 4.2, the PROTECTO cabinet for
hazardous materials can be assembled and operated without an technical
ventilation.
Following is to be observed:
•
Cabinet's inside is explosion-risk area zone 1
•
The explosion-risk area zone 2 is within a distance of 2,5 m round the cabinet
at the minimum and up to a height of min. 0,5 m above the floor
•
The explosion-risk area zone 2 is reduced to 1m round the cabinet and 0,3 m
above the floor if the installation place (workspace) is technically ventilated with
a 5-fold air change at the minimum
•
The explosion-risk area should be labelled.

Labelling
All models are to be labelled according to EN 14470-1 and DIN 12 925-1
requirements.
Quantity stored / Storage compatibility
Please pay attention to valid national regulations in dependence on cabinet type
classification.
