1. Convection air flow is ensured between the enclosed portion of the fireplace and the masonry fireplace
wall. To achieve this, minimum distance of 5 cm shall be provided between the 5 cm thick rock wool
insulation of the fireplace wall and the insert.
2. Air supply and exhaust are provided below the insert and above the insert respectively, through grids of a
total area of 1000 cm2. Air grids shall be of non-clogging type.
3. Specified minimum clearance 120 cm between the front side of the firebox and combustible materials is
provided.
Upon the completion of the installation works a fireplace and chimney use certificate, including flue and
chimney inspection report/test certificates shall be obtained from a chimney sweeper.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
First firing
Considering that the fireplace is made of cast iron, tendency of this material to develop cracks due to sudden
and uneven heat loads shall be taken into account. Therefore keep the fire at a moderate level at the
beginning. Start the fire with a small amount of crumpled newspaper and dry kindling.
WARNING! Do not use alcohol and petrol for ignition or re-ignition.
IMPORTANT:
Prior to proceeding with the first firing, spread a sufficient quantity of ash or sand over the bottom plate of the
firebox to cover the undulated ribs but make sure to leave the holes of the pan cover free.
When cleaning, i.e. removing the ash, make sure that sufficient ash is left to cover the entire lower plate at
the level of undulated ribs and thus to ensure long-lasting ember bed and to protect the lower plate.
The fireplace is not designed with a conventional grate but with a pan cover. It serves only for the removal of
the ash into the ash tray and to facilitate the supply of fresh air to support combustion.
To re-establish the fire from the ember bed, clean the cover holes with the firebox scraper, gather some
embers onto the cover, add some kindling, open the air supply control device and close the door.
If good quality wood is used, frequent ash cleaning is not required. Make sure that the ash does not clog the
openings on lateral panels for primary air inlet.
The fireplaces designed without a grate ensure long-lasting ember bed and the fire needs not be
extinguished except before ash removal.
Read the instructions concerning the air supply control included under the titles "Firing and regular
operation" and "Output adjustment".
The interior of the fireplace is painted with a heat resistant paint. With the first firing, this paint gradually sets
and some fumes of a characteristic odour may be given off in the process. Therefore ventilate the room
during this phase.
Suitable fuel
The fireplace has been designed to burn only wood and wood briquettes, i.e. the fuel with low ash content,
such as beech, hornbeam, birch and similar wood.
Use only well-seasoned dry wood with a humidity level not exceeding 20%, to reduce the likelihood of
greasy soot (creosote) build-up, which may cause clogging of the chimney.
Do not burn household waste, especially not any plastic materials. Many waste materials contain
substances that are harmful to the fireplace the chimney and the environment.
Also, never burn chipboard waste, because chipboard contains glues which may cause overheating of the
fireplace.
Recommended single fuel loads:
Logs (~33cm long)
Wood briquettes
Excessive loads may cause the staining of the door glass.
