Adjusting the gate

The built-in gate is a downward expander which will behave contrary to the compressor: It will boost the
dynamics of an audio signal. This allows to turn off or significantly accentuate the audio signal passing
through the gate when the signal falls below an adjustable threshold. Thus, it will be possible to suppress
noise which is lower than the wanted signal.
1)
Release the BYPASS switch to activate the signal processing.
2)
Adjust the threshold of the gate with the GATE THRESHOLD control. First turn the control to the left
stop position so that the gate will be without effect. Switch on the signal sources connected and slowly
turn the control clockwise until the gate will only allow the wanted signal (instrument or voice) to pass
through and will suppress noise in pauses between the wanted signal. The LED next to the control will
light up if the input signal is below the threshold adjusted and thus the gate is processing. When the
signal level is above the threshold again, the LED turns off. The ratio is fixed at 2:1. The output level is
reduced by 2 dB for every 1 dB the input signal level drops.

Adjusting the compressor

The task of compressors is to reduce the dynamics and attenuate the level above an adjustable threshold.
This is required when the dynamics of the audio signal is higher than that allowed by the following audio unit.
Thus, it will be possible, e.g. to protect amplifiers against overload and speakers against damage.
1)
Adjust the threshold of the compressor with the COMPRESSOR THRESHOLD control. Signals below
the threshold value can pass unaltered. Signals above the threshold value are reduced in gain, relative
to the amount the signal exceeds this point. The GAIN REDUCTION meter will display the level
reduction when the threshold is exceeded.
2)
Use the COMPRESSOR RATIO control to adjust the ratio between the input and output level for all
signals exceeding the threshold point by more than 10 dB. The control range can be adjusted from 1:1
to
:1. Position "1" leads to no compression. Turning the control clockwise make the sound
increasingly dense. Position "
exceeding the threshold point.

Adjusting the output level

Due to the dynamic compression, the output level will be reduced. Use the OUTPUT LEVEL control to
compensate this reduction and match the output level of the compressor to the input level of the following
unit.
" corresponds to a limiter setting which will radically limit all signals
