Function of the motion detector
The PIR sensor integrated in the motion detector responds to temperature changes within the
detection range, e.g. if a person, an animal or a car enters the detection area and its tempera-
ture differs from that of the background.
To ensure the optimum motion detection, the motion detector should be placed so that the
object to be detected does not approach the motion detector directly but passes through the
detection area from left to right or vice versa. Keep this in mind when installing the product. The
horizontal detection angle is 180°.
By turning or tilting, the alignment to the detection area can be changed.
The detection range can be restricted further by covering the plastic lens of the motion detector
e.g. with a strip of non-transparent adhesive tape.
The range for detecting a temperature change in the detection range is determined by several
factors:
• Mounting height of the motion detector (recommended approx. 2 m)
• Temperature difference between the moving object and the background (ambient)
• Size of the moving object
• The distance of the object from the motion detector
• Direction and speed of the moving object
• Ambient temperature (e.g. summer, winter)
Please note that a detection of a temperature change through glass is not possible,
due to the principle involved.
In winter, the motion detector's function might be restricted as e.g. persons are well-
insulated through their winter clothes.
Similar problems are to be expected at high ambient temperatures in summer since
there is only a low thermal difference between human skin and the sunlit area being
monitored.
Preparations for Installation
• Without fail, pay attention to the correct mounting position for the LED floodlight; it may only
be mounted such that the PIR motion detector is underneath.
• Make sure you attach the LED floodlight to a solid base, e.g. masonry. Use screws and, if
necessary, screw anchors that are suitable for the surface.
• The LED floodlight must be installed such that it is out of the reach of children.
• Select the mounting height depending on the on-site conditions.
• The LED floodlight must be protected on the sub-distribution board by a 10/16 A-fuse. An
earth circuit fault interrupter must be installed before this (FI protective switch).
• The LED floodlight must be disconnected from the power supply during installation. It is not
sufficient to just turn off the light switch!
First switch off all poles of the mains supply by removing the fuse or switching off at the circuit
breaker; then also switch off the associated residual current circuit breaker. Secure it against
unauthorised reconnection, e.g. with a danger sign.
• Check that the mains supply is free of current using an appropriate tester.

Installation

• The LED floodlight can be mounted on a wall (or ceiling, under a carport and so on) using the
U-shaped mounting bracket. Use, depending on the mounting location, appropriate screws
and if necessary dowels.
The motion detector must point towards the floor.
Pay attention when drilling/tightening the screws that no cables or pipes are damaged.
• Connect the three single conductors of the LED floodlight's connection cable to the mains
cable (brown cable = L/phase, blue cable = N/neutral line, green/yellow cable = PE/earth,
earthing symbol).
Make sure you use a suitable terminal box and the corresponding terminal clamps.
Adjusting the motion detector
• Setting the on-time (control dial "TIME")
Using this control dial, you can set the duration for the on-time. One rotation to the left re-
duces the on-time, one rotation to the right increases it (for more details on the duration of
the on-time see section "Technical Data").
If the LED floodlight has been activated and during the on-time the motion detector detects
another temperature change within the detection range, the on-time is restarted.
Only if there is no more thermal change in the detection area during the on-time, will the LED
floodlight go out.
• Setting the sensitivity (control dial "SENS")
The more the control dial is turned to the right, the more sensitive is the reaction of the motion
detector; i.e. it responds more quickly to slight temperature changes in the detection area (or
to small objects with a different temperature).
If the sensitivity is set too high, false activations may occur; if the sensitivity is set too low, the
LED floodlight will not be activated.
We recommend you to set the control dial, as an initial setting, somewhere in the middle; later
on you may adjust it step by step until the motion detector reacts correctly e.g. to persons in
the detection area.
• Setting the brightness adjustment (control dial "LUX")
Using this rotary dial, the switching threshold for the ambient brightness needed to activate
the motion detector can be set (approx. 3 - 2000 lux).
Turning the rotary knob counter-clockwise to the left, in the direction of the moon symbol,
means the motion detector activates when it is darker; turning it clockwise to the right, in
direction of the sun symbol, activates the motion detector in brighter conditions.
• Aligning the motion detector
The motion detector on the bottom of the LED floodlight can be adjusted vertically. For this
purpose, unfasten the plastic locking screw located on the side and pan the motion detector
upwards or downwards. Then tighten the locking screw again.
Maintenance and care
• The LED floodlight does not require maintenance. The LED bulb is permanently installed and
cannot be replaced. Repair or maintenance work must be carried out by a specialist.
• The exterior of the LED floodlight should only be wiped with a clean, soft, dry cloth. Do not
use aggressive cleaning agents or chemical solutions that could damage the housing (discol-
ouring) or impair operation. If it is very dirty, use a cloth slightly moistened with clean water.
• Do not press too hard on the housing or the glass cover, as scratches might appear.
• Never direct a jet of water from a garden hose or even a high-pressure cleaner onto the LED
floodlight!
