important notice when handling and charging batteries.
– Battery acid is highly corrosive. Always wear suitable clothing, gloves and
safety glasses when you are working on a starter battery. If acid gets on
the skin or clothing it should immediately be treated with soap and rinsed
with plenty of water to dilute the battery acid. If battery acid should come in
contact with the eyes, immediately rinse the eyes for at least 10 min under
running water and then consult your doctor for further treatment.
– When charging a battery it may occur that gas is released. This gas is
explosive.
– Never charge a battery near an open fire or a place where sparks can occur.
Do not smoke near a battery.
– Provide sufficient ventilation.
– Improper charging the battery e.g. using a wrong or defective battery or
short-circuiting it, can overload and eventually destroy it. In the worst case the
battery can explode and cause considerable damage.
Do not charge a defective or frozen battery. Signs of a defective battery are:
– There is a smell of gas in the room.
– During charging there is a detectable temperature difference between the
individual cells.
– A mechanical or thermal deformation of the battery case, a crack or corrosion
can be seen.
– The liquid level of the individual cells differs.

– If a battery has to be removed from the vehicle before charging, first make
sure that all electrical consumers (ignition, radio, phone) are switched off.
Always remove the ground at terminal (-) of the battery first.
– Make sure the battery terminals are clean and have good electrical contact.
– When charging batteries with liquid acid, please remove the plugs of the
individual cells for ventilation before charging. Let the gases evaporate for
about 2 min before applying the leads.
– Should a power failure occur during charging, then the charger will resume in
the former charging mode when reconnected .
