6.1 connecting And disconnecting
the BAttery
negAtive grounded BAttery (standard):
1. Always disconnect the charger from the mains when connecting the
battery.
2. First connect the red cable to the positive (+) terminal of the battery.
3. Connect the black cable to the body/ground of the vehicle. If the battery is
not being charged in the car then connect the black cable to the negative
(–) terminal of the battery.
Attention:
if the battery is being charged in the car, the negative cable
may not come into direct contact with the battery or the fuel line.
4. Now connect the plug with your mains.
5. The charging cycle will automatically start five seconds after the battery
type has been selected. The chosen mode will be locked. The LED
"Laden" (charging) will light up. Detailed information of the charging cycle
is described under point 6.
6. The battery is fully loaded when the green LED "Fertig" (finished) lights up
and the LED "Laden" switches itself off.
7. After finishing the charging cycle disconnect charger from the mains first.
8. Then disconnect the black terminal from the battery/vehicle body and finally
disconnect the red cable from the battery.
Attention:
if the charger does not automatically go into "maintenance
mode" after a longer period of charging the reasons might be:
– Due to the battery age there is a permanent leakage of 300 mA or larger.
– The battery is being charged in the vehicle and the connected electric
consumers are in sum using more than 300 mA.
li-po And li-ion stArter BAtteries:
charging of Li-Po/Li-Ion starter batteries. This mode is especially designated for
12V starter batteries on the basis of Li-Ion or Li-Polymer cells.
