4 Carrying out Measurements

Measurements of objects which
carry more than 42 V must only be
made by persons able to recognize
a hazard of contact and to take
corresponding safety precautions.
In case of measurements with
hazard of contact avoid working on
your own. Ask a second person to
assist.
1) Set the rotary switch (8) to the de-
sired measuring range.
2) The display shows an indication. If
not, a 9 V battery has to be inserted.
If the symbol
place the battery – see chapter 5 "Re-
placement of Battery".
3) After operation always switch off the
unit, otherwise the battery will un-
necessarily be exhausted: Set the
range switch (8) to the upper or lower
position "
If the unit is not in use for a longer
period of time, the battery should be
removed. Thus, possible damage to
the unit is avoided in case the battery
should leak.
4.1 AC current measurement
The voltage of the current rail or the
conductor to be measured must not
exceed 600 V~. Otherwise there is
danger of life!
The AC current max. to be measured
must not exceed 700 A.
1) Set the range switch (8) to position
"700A~". The display (4) shows "ACA".
2) Open the current clamp (1) with the
push-button (2). Hold the instrument
so that the current rail or the conduc-
tor to be measured can be enclosed
by the clamp. Then close the current
clamp.
Either the current of the phase or
of the neutral conductor can be
measured, never the current of both
conductors at the same time!

3) Read the current value on the display.
If the value is below 200 A, switch
down from the 700 A range to the
200 A range and further down to the
20 A range, if necessary.
4) When exceeding a measuring range,
the display signalizes "OL". Then
switch to the next higher measuring
range.
5) If the highest current is to be
"freezed" during a measurement,
shortly press button "PEAK" (3). The
display shows the symbol
switch off this function, shortly press
button "PEAK" again. The actual
measuring value is displayed again

4.2 "Freezing" the measuring value

1) To "freeze" the measuring value,
shortly press the red button "H" (7)
(e. g. for better reading after separat-
ing the measuring object from the
meter). The display shows the sym-
bol H . The function can be activated
in all measuring ranges.
2) To switch off this function, shortly
press button "H" again. The symbol
H extinguishes.
3) If another measuring range is select-
ed with the range switch (8), the func-
tion is automatically deactivated, and
the symbol extinguishes.
