Siphons
If the temperature of the measured fluid at the measuring point is higher than
the permissible operating temperature of the product, the shut-off units and
the products must be protected from the hot medium by means of sufficiently
long measuring lines or siphons. Siphons (see current AFRISO catalogue or
www.afriso.com) help to condense the medium for the elastic measuring ele-
ment and help to protect the product from excessively hot medium.
1. Mount a siphon filled with the medium or a similar device close to the pro-
duct.
2. Fill the siphon with the condensate of the medium.
3. Pressurise the arrangement.
- The hot medium cannot reach the product when pressure is applied.

Chemical seals
If the medium is corrosive, hot, highly viscous or crystallising, chemical seals
may be used to help prevent the medium from reaching the measuring ele-
ment. A neutral liquid is used to transmit the pressure to the measuring ele-
ment.
1. Select this pressure transmission liquid according to the measuring
range, temperature, viscosity, compatibility of the liquid and the medium
and other factors.
2. Install an additional cooling element between the chemical seal and the
product so that the pressure transmission liquid can withstand the tempe-
rature of the medium.
3. Do not separate the connection between chemical seal and product.
A diaphragm pressure gauge is an alternative to a Bourdon tube pressure
gauge with chemical seal. The accuracy information shown on the dial
applies to an ambient temperature of +20 °C.
As per EN 837-3, a deviation of the indication of a diaphragm pressure gauge
caused by temperature influences is permissible up to a value of 0.08 %/K
with reference to the full scale value.
