cHanging gear cables
Please direct questions regarding the Rohloff Speedhub 500/14 directly to

Important:
Always follow these instructions when changing your gear cables! Never
open the shiftbox before releasing the tension of the return springs by
unscrewing the cable retainer first! Pay special attention
to not bending parts through improper handling, to ensure a perma­
nently reliable operation of the ratchets. Ratchets and tooth ring
can be cleaned using compressed air. Only use low viscosity oil with
maximum SAE10 to lubricate the switch unit. Do not use highly viscous
lubricants or grease, as those can affect the proper function of the
ratchet mechanism! A change of gear cables is always conducted with
the shiftbox detached from the hub and removed shift cable index
housings.
Required material:
• 2 shifter cables (max. nipple diameter 4.5 mm)
• 9 mm wrench
• 2.5 mm Allen key
• Shift:R Tool
1 Unscrew the cable retainers using the wrench. The return springs will lose
their tension and become visible.
