cylinder next to the manual brake lever. The
hydraulic fluid travels to the brake cylinders via a
brake line. The brake pads are pressed against the
disc by pistons. This type of brake is very powerful
and does not require much maintenance.
Whenever you adjust them, test the brakes by
pushing the bike firmly whilst applying the brake
lever. Only use your bike if it brakes safely.
Regularly check to make sure that the tubes and
outer casings are properly sealed, including every
time you go out. Tubes and fittings that are not
sealed properly may result in braking fluid leaks
and prevent the brakes from working properly.
If any fluid leaks from the braking system, stop
using the bike and get a specialist to carry out the
necessary repairs immediately.
If you cycle with the brakes in this state, there is a
significant risk of the brakes failing.
When transporting or storing the bike upside down,
air bubbles can form in the braking system reservoir.
This can affect the performance of your brakes.
Adjusting the brakes
If needed the brake pads of the hydraulic disc
brakes can be adjusted.
Loosen the caliper mounting bolts, until
movement is possible, move the caliper until the
disc is in the middle of the brakepads. Tighten the
bolts firmly. 8Nm
Warnings
Be careful around the brake discs after using the
bike. The discs can become very hot. Do not touch
the disc during or after using the bike.
Be extra careful in wet weather, the braking
distance will increase.
Brake pads are consumables and need to be
replaced with type-approved components.
Be aware that riding with and without extra load
mounted on your bike can influence the riding
and braking behaviour, especially when riding on
sloping roads, or while taking corners.
Cleaning the braking system
If the brake pads come into contact with oil or
grease, they will need to be replaced. If the brake
disc comes into contact with oil or grease, it will
need to be replaced. Failure to do so will hinder
the performance of your brakes significantly..
Use isopropyl alcohol, soapy water or a dry cloth
to clean and maintain the braking system. Do
not use commercially available noise-reduction
solutions or cleaning products for brakes as they
may damage certain parts, such as the seals for
example.
During chain or transmission maintenance, avoid
splashing lubricant onto the brake pads.
