Our recommendation:
Based on our consistently positive experience, we recommend using HDMI quality cables
from PURELINK (e.g. PI 1000 series or better). These are available in different lengths.
Audio connections
The BSS Case for the Rodecaster Video includes two combo audio inputs, each of which ac-
cepts either a 3-pin XLR connector or a 6.35 mm (¼") mono jack plug. These inputs are con-
figured via the Rodecaster's user interface.
XLR = Balanced audio input, e.g. for dynamic microphones.
In the Rodecaster interface, the input gain can be adjusted. Additionally, 48V phantom
power can be enabled for use with condenser microphones.
Jack (¼") = Unbalanced audio input, e.g. for instruments such as keyboards or electric gui-
tars.
Our recommendation:
• Whenever possible, use balanced audio signals, as they offer better protection against
interference. Electrical noise is transmitted identically on both lines and is canceled out
at the input—making this ideal for longer cable runs and professional applications.
• If you need more than the two balanced inputs built into the Rodecaster Video, use an
external mixing console to connect additional microphones.
• Depending on the internal wiring and power distribution of the mixing console,
ground loops may occur. In such cases, please use an appropriate line isolator (galvanic
isolation) between the mixing console output and the Rodecaster audio input.
Audio workaround
Many cameras can process balanced signals directly (usually indicated by the XLR input).
This allows the signal to be provided to the Rodecaster Video via the HDMI input. This solu-
tion also has the advantage of synchronizing the video and audio from the camera.
