Operation with the BSS case for the ATEM Mini
The Flow 8 Case and the ATEM Mini Case are two perfectly matched components for live
streaming or recording in high quality. The same applies to both: open, plug in, switch on
and get started. The optionally available, galvanically isolated MainOut in the Flow 8 case
prevents interference caused by potential differences between the two cases. In addition,
the unbalanced R/L cinch output is matched to the audio input of the ATEM Mini. This
means that nothing stands in the way of the two components working together.
Suitable cables for the BSS Case ATEM Mini Economic/Basic series
All devices in the ATEM Mini/ATEM Mini Extreme series that are installed in a BSS-Economic
or Basic Case are connected to the Flow 8 Case using a:
• Y adapter cable, RCA (male) (R/L) to 3.5 mm stereo jack (cable type 1).
Suitable cables for the BSS Case ATEM Mini Professional series
For all devices in the ATEM Mini/ATEM Mini Extreme or ATEM Mini SDI series that are in-
stalled in a BSS Professional or SDI case, the connection to the Flow 8 case is made using a
• Y adapter cable, RCA (male) (R/L) to 3-pin XLR (male) (cable type 2)
You can find suitable adapter cables in various lengths in specialist shops. Search online for
example for:
• For cable type 1: "3.5mm jack to 2 RCA plug splitter cable"
• For cable type 2: "XLR plug to 2 RCA plug splitter cable"

Unbalanced stereo inputs
In the ATEM software (ATEM Software Control Panel), the input sensitivity of the two audio
inputs can also be switched to "Mic" (microphone). Nevertheless, these inputs are not suit-
able for the direct connection of a balanced microphone. In such a case, a (stereo) signal

converter (balanced to unbalanced) must be connected upstream. Other methods, such
as using audio cables with corresponding bridges between the pins, may work in indi-
vidual cases, but often result in hum loops or other audio artifacts that do not lead to
the desired result.
Therefore, feeding the signal from the optionally available unbalanced RCA outputs of
an upstream Flow 8 case is one of the easiest ways to connect microphones to the ATEM
Mini.
Our recommendation:
• Wherever possible, use unbalanced stereo signals with hi-fi level (-10dB) to feed into
the audio inputs of the ATEM Mini.
• To connect microphones, use an upstream Flow 8 mixing console in the BSS case
with the optionally available unbalanced outputs. The use of high-quality trans-
formers prevents hum loops between the devices in the long term.
