1 GENERAL INFORMATION
1.1 SYMBOLS
This is a SAFETY ALERT SYMBOL.
When you see this symbol in the manual be alert to the potential
for personal injury and follow the instructions carefully.
This is an ELECTRICAL SAFETY ALERT SYMBOL.
WARNING
Instructions with this symbol are critical for the correct
installation, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of
the ossi-mix.
However all the instructions should be followed carefully to ensure the
safe and reliable running of the ossi-mix for the whole of its working life.
1.2 GENERAL INFORMATION
Check that the equipment detailed in the delivery documents corresponds
to the effective contents of the consignment and that these are
undamaged.
Thoroughly review all instructions and warnings prior to performing any
work on this pump.
The manual and all the enclosed documentation, including the safety
decals, supplied with the ossi-mix are an important part of the machine
itself and should be kept available for consultation for the whole of its
working life. The decals could be stuck into the maintenance and
operation manual. No part of this documentation may be reproduced or
copied in any form without written authorization from the manufacturer.
1.3 WARNING
Please read all the documentation enclosed with the product in order to
ensure safe operation and maximum performance. The following
instructions are pertinent to the ossi-mix used in standard mode and under
normal operating circumstances. Special features, identified in the
product code, may lead to differences to the standard manual instructions,
and where necessary the manual will be supplemented as appropriate.
In accordance with our company policy of continuous product
improvement, the manufacturer may modify documentation data and the
product itself without any prior notice.
Failure to follow the instructions contained in the documentation or
improper use or modification that have not been approved by the
manufacturer invalidates the guarantee and precludes the manufacturer
from any responsibility for damage to persons, animals or property.
2. SAFETY
Before carrying out any operations make sure the electrical
parts are disconnected from the power supply.
This radial submersible ossi-mix is designed for industrial,
building site or residential use and therefore maintenance must be carried
out by trained, qualified personnel using the correct tools and equipment.
The ossi-mix may be transported, installed and run by non-specialized
personnel as long as they have studied this manual and any other
documentation enclosed with the product thoroughly.
Safety,
accident
prevention
instructions contained in this manual and any other
documentation enclosed with the product, and the most
stringent local restrictions must always be observed when carrying out
each single operation. Given the nature of the liquids being aerated it may
be necessary to protect skin from direct contact by wearing or using
appropriate protective clothing or accessories.
For safety reasons and to protect the terms of the guarantee, use of the
product should be suspended in case of any failure, breakdown or sudden
variation in performance.
During installation avoid accidental contact liable to cause harm to
persons, animals and/or property.
Inspection and maintenance procedures must be carried out in such a way
as to avoid any form of risk arising from a possible product fault.
Please consult the chapter on "Movement and Storage" to ensure safe
movement and storage.
3. DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
3.1 TECHNICAL AND OPERATIONAL DETAILS AND
APPLICATIONS
OMG submersible ossi-mix provide an extremely flexible and versatile
new system of mixing and aerating sewage with all the advantages of
high rates of oxygenation, low noise levels, excellent reliability, low costs
and rapid installation. They also benefit from being able to run on
atmospheric air, oxygen-enriched air and pure oxygen and thus do not
require cumbersome, expensive air diffusion systems.
and

safety
en
The System is based on the use of a special hydraulic system with a 3-
channel centrifugal impeller, which works in a special 12-outlet diffuser.
The outlet of the pump is thus spread among the 12 nozzles that deliver
the sludge to be aerated into 12 individual mixing chambers.
In these chambers the sludge is contacted with the air supplied by a
compressor, the air-sludge contact occurs in an high turbulence annular
conduit.
The OM system delivers twelve jets of aerated mixture, thus producing
high levels of dissolved oxygen and a vigorous mixing of the sludge.
The air and liquid are forcefully mixed in the discharge piping and
discharged in radial jets, further mixing them. This process ensures that
OMG ossi-mix achieve a very high level of oxygenation and mixing.
Moreover the OMG pumps operate on the floor of the tanks, making sure
that all the sewage is aerated and preventing stagnant areas typical of
other systems.
The induction motor with its squirrel cage impeller is submersible with an
IP 68 level of protection.
Stainless steel screws and camshafts on all models ensure that they are
reliable even when used to aerate moderately aggressive sewage.
Installation of the OMG submersible ossi-mix is extremely simple; it only
has to be placed on the floor of the tank and does not require anchoring or
supports. Stability is ensured by the weight of the pump itself and its low
centre of gravity. The chain hooked to the pump and attached to the air
suction pipe makes the pump easy to remove or lay without having to use
expensive gangways or empty the tanks.
When the pump has been installed in accordance with the instructions
contained in this manual and following the various diagrams it contains,
the acoustic radiation pressure it emits within the prescribed operating
range never touches 70 dB(A).
3.2 OPERATIONAL SUITABILITY
WARNING
OMG submersible ossi-mix should not be used:
-For dry running;
-For aerating/mixing sewage at over 40 °C (104°F);
-At depths of more or less than the minimum and maximum
levels stated in the charts;
-For aerating/mixing sewage with a pH under or over 6.5 ~ 8.5 (special
versions are available on request for different pH values);
-For aerating/mixing inflammable liquids;
-In explosion risk environments.
4. STORAGE AND MOVEMENT
Store the pump in a dry, dust-free place.
Beware of potential instability due to incorrect positioning.
Rotate the rotating parts at regular intervals to prevent them
from blocking (see the section on "preliminary inspection" for a
description of the correct procedure). TAKE CARE NOT TO DAMAGE
THE POWER SUPPLY LINE DURING MOVEMENT.
WARNING
In order to be stored safely after a preceding installation the
submersible ossi-mix must be cleaned thoroughly (DO NOT
USE hydrocarbon derivatives).
The OMG submersible ossi-mix should be handled with great care, using
suitable lifting equipment that complies with safety regulations when
required and using suitable attachment points.
Never use power supply cables to move the ossi-mix.
Do not bend cables sharply (the minimum bend angle should be
five times the cable diameter). Never wet or immerge the end of
the cables in liquids.
5. ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION
5.1 PRELIMINARY INSPECTION
Inspect unit for damage during transportation.
Install the ossi-mix in as vertical position as possible.
Using the ossi-mix in a non-vertical position causes greater wear on the
rotating parts.
Do not submerge the tip of the electrical cable or lower or raise the ossi-
mix by the cable; use the chain provided. Incorrect handling may allow
water to get into the cable or break internal conductors, causing motor
failure.
If the cable has to be lengthened follow the instructions below:
-handle the splice carefully, avoid submerging it if possible;
-only lengthen the cable as required choosing a suitable section.
If the cable is too long and the section too small there may be a drop in
voltage, making it impossible to start the motor.
-Installation depth has a considerable effect on the motor load. The
deeper it is the greater the motor load.
The ossi-mix must only be run fully submerged in the liquid to be
aerated; dry running will cause over-heating.
