-
Remove wire brace from pantograph (s. fig. 5).
-
Put the vehicle upright.
2.2 Lifting and carrying the vehicle
Always grasp the track tamping machine at both parts of the vehicle and use both hands for lifting and carrying the train.
Never grasp it by touching the aggregate frame, the roof or the bogies. Support the joint between the two vehicle parts
while carrying it.
3. Introduction
The track tamping machine is a particularly impressive working machine for track construction. It is used for an optimal
and permanent tamping of the ballast bed and for levelling the track position.
The original vehicle is driven completely electrically - traction motors as well as all hydraulic units. The
electric power comes either from the overhead line or from a 600 kW diesel engine with generator.
Even in H0 scale, the track tamping machine with sound, light effects, pantograph and movement functions of the power
unit frame and the tamping unit is a fascinating appearance.
In driving mode, the machine runs silky smooth forwards or backwards like a normal locomotive thanks to its powerful
compact drive with two bogies driven by synchronised motors. In working mode, the train travels at working speed in
working direction with the tamping unit in action. Attractive functions as well as sound and working mode are also avail-
able in analogue operation, but then not individually switchable due to the system.
4. Operation
The track tamping machine is suitable for analogue and digital operation. We recommend operating this model in digital
mode in order to fully utilize all available functions.
The integrated decoder works with both the DCC incl. RailCom and Märklin Motorola (MM) digital formats. It automati-
cally recognizes the digital format.
Factory setting: 03 (DCC/MM)
The digital format to be used may be selected resp. detected automatically.
4.1 Available functions
All digitally controlled functions of the tamping machine are shown in table 1: "Switchable functions" . The tamping machine is
equipped with the following functions:
-
Running in the running mode forward/reverse (digital, analogue).
-
Working mode with speed-synchronised, functional tamping unit (digital, analogue). Working mode is adjusted to the
driving speed.
-
Functions of tamping unit digitally switchable.
-
Light functions:
Direction-dependent three-light top light and red tail lights, Double-A-light, high beam, braking light, yellow warning
beacons front and back, switchable white or blue interior lighting in both driver's cabs depending on direction of travel,
work cab lighting, work space lighting.
-
Motor-driven pantograph, adjustable in height, with adaptation of motor sound to the operation mode: diesel locomotive
sound when the pantograph is lowered, otherwise sound of electrical locomotive.
-
Sound module for different operational sounds.
-
Coupler pockets acc. NEM 362 with rear close-coupling kinematics (coupler is not mounted as delivered ex
factory).
-
Load control for driving mode (digital).
-
Prototypical maximum speed even in analogue operation thanks to automatic adjustment to a too high transformer
voltage.
-
Support of the RailCom datagrams, command acknowledgements, CV contents, address broadcast.
-
Power storage for bridging poor contact points.
-
RailCom-compatible digital decoder for DCC/MM and DC analogue operation.
4.2 Allocation of function buttons
The auxiliary functions are mapped to the following function buttons acc. to table 1: "Switchable functions" :
Hint: For certain functions (e. g. horn and others for controlling various features of the tamping unit) you should set the
corresponding function buttons to momentary action (provided your command station supports this feature).
Programming functions: You can set all functions of the decoder with the CV programming or in register mode. All
available options are shown in chapter 5.
Speed step mode: DCC 28 speed steps
