3. Bucking a Log
Bucking is cutting a log into lengths.
Make sure that your footing is firm and your weight is evenly
distributed on both feet.
If possible, raise and support the log by using limbs, logs or chocks.
According to the location of the log, cut as follows:
When the log is supported along its entire length, start cutting from
the top. While cutting, make sure not to touch the ground with the
guide bar.
When the log is supported on one end, first cut 1/3 of the diameter
from the underside. Then make the finished cut by cutting from the
top and meet the first cut.
When the log is supported on both ends, first cut 1/3 of the
diameter from the top and then make the finished cut by cutting 2/3
of the diameter from the underside to meet the first cut.
Chen cutting on a slope away terrain, always stand on the uphill
side of the log. When sawing through the log, to maintain complete
control, release the cutting pressure near the end of the cut without
relaxing your grip on the chain saw handles. Make sure the chain
