Seal the gap between the fireplace opening and the surround
frame. Depending on the style and nature of the stones in the
fireplace, a smoke-tight finish can be made with:
Stones, tiles, firebricks directly between the surround frame and
the fireplace,
elements prefabricated in the workshop or
sheet metal panels bolted directly to the frame or pre-cut refractory
panels (class M0 or A2-s1, d0). If the fireplace has a wooden
beam, then insulate this so that its temperature does not exceed
85°C. Installation of an insert makes the fireplace and surrounding
materials hotter.

SEALING GASKET
Apply the self-adhesive sealant to the surround frame. Use a
silicone cord joint to strengthen adhesion.
ASSEMBLING THE INSERT
Bring the insert up to the fireplace and pass the cable through the
hole in the fireplace uprights. Fit the insert on to the surround
frame «rails» and slide it in fully. Place the electrical cable in a
loop inside the fireplace so that the insert can be removed. Make
sure the looped cable is not trapped under the appliance.
To prevent air entering and acting as a draught hood, a good seal
is necessary between the insert and the surround frame. Use the 2
cross-head screws.
