∙ Carefully check the packaging when buying frozen food:
if the packaging shows signs of moisture, has bubbled
up or is bulging, it indicates that the food may not have
been stored properly and has spoiled.
∙ The storage times for frozen foods largely depend
on the ambient temperature, the temperature control
setting, the type of food and the time between shop and
freezer, but mainly also on how often the freezer door
is opened and how long it remains open. Always follow
the instructions given on the food packaging, and do not
exceed the specified maximum shelf life.
∙ Uncoloured plastic foils/bags or aluminium foil can be
used as packaging material for frozen goods. Vent
the packaging well before freezing and check for air
tightness. We recommend putting a label on each
package stating contents, freezing date and use-by
date.
Use-by dates for frozen food are specified (in months)
in the table below.
∙ Do not exceed these storage times.
∙ However, always observe the manufacturer's use-by
dates for the frozen food.
∙ If the unit remains switched off for an extended period
(eg during a power failure), the door should be kept
closed; this will help to maintain the lowest possible
temperature in the cabinet. The product data sheet at
the end of this manual contains detailed information of
the maximum safe storage time in case of malfunction.
∙ Even a slight rise in the inside temperature will shorten
the storage life of the food.
Cleaning and Defrosting (Maintenance)
Cleaning
∙ Always remove the plug from the wall socket before
cleaning.
∙ Do not pour water over the unit.
When used as a refrigerator:
∙ To avoid an unpleasant odour in the refrigerator
compartment, it should be cleaned about once a month.
∙ Lukewarm water with added detergent is suitable for
regular care. Clean the accessories separately in rinsing
water. Do not clean in a dishwasher.
∙ Do not use harsh, abrasive, alcohol-based or aggressive
cleaning agents.
∙ After cleaning, wipe with clear water and dry carefully.
When using as a freezer:
Defrosting
∙ After a long period of operation, a layer of ice forms
inside the appliance, depending on how often, for
example, the door was opened. If the thickness of the
ice layer is 3 to 5 mm, the appliance must be defrosted.
∙ The build-up of ice increases the power consumption of
the appliance.
∙ Clean the appliance at least twice a year.
∙ When de-frosting the unit, ensure that the plug has been
removed from the wall socket.
∙ Take food out of the interior and store it as cool as
possible, e.g. together with frozen cold packs, covered
in a plastic tray. Note that the lifespan of the goods is
shortened by the rise in temperature and they should be
consumed as quickly as possible.
∙ Leave the freezer door open.
∙ To speed up the defrosting process, place a pot or pans
with hot, not boiling, water in the freezer. Do not pour
water into the appliance.
∙ Warning! Do not use any other mechanical devices or
other means, e.g. heaters, to speed up the defrosting.
∙ When re-inserting the plug into the wall socket ensure
that you have dry hands.
∙ Take care not to remove or damage the rating plate
during cleaning.
∙ To save energy, the compressor (on the back) should
be carefully cleaned with a broom or vacuum cleaner at
least twice a year.
Energy saving tips
∙ The appliance should be set up in a well-ventilated, dry
room.
∙ Do not expose the appliance to direct sunlight, and
do not position it next to any heat sources (radiators,
cookers etc.). If this cannot be avoided, however,
suitable insulation must be installed between the heat
source and the unit.
∙ Do not cover the ventilation openings and grilles, and
ensure sufficient air circulation behind the unit.
∙ The compressor (at the rear) should be cleaned at
regular intervals. Accumulated dust causes an increase
in energy consumption.
∙ Warm food should be allowed to cool down before it is
stored inside.
∙ Do not leave the appliance door open for too long
when removing or putting in food, otherwise a rise in
temperature and possible ice formation inside will be
accelerated.
∙ Regular defrosting helps to save energy. For more
information on defrosting, please refer to the "Cleaning
and Defrosting (Maintenance)".
∙ Do not set a lower-than-necessary temperature. For
detailed information on the temperature settings, please
refer to the section Temperature control.
