Releasing protection lock
When the protection system works repeatedly, the tool is locked.
I n t h i s s i t u a t i o n , t h e t o o l d o e s n o t s t a r t e v e n i f t u r n i n g
the tool o and on. To release the protection lock,
remove the battery, set it to the battery charger and wait
until the charging finishes.
Protections against other causes
Protection system is also designed for other causes that could
damage the tool and allows the tool to stop automatically.
T a k e a l l t h e f o l l o w i n g s t e p s t o c l e a r t h e c a u s e s , w h e n t h e t o o l
has been brought to a temporary halt or stop in operation.

Turn the tool o , and then turn it on again to restart.

Charge the battery(ies) or replace it/them with
recharged battery(ies).

Let the tool and battery(ies) cool down.
If no improvement can be found by restoring protection
system, then contact your local Makita Service Center.
Sw itch action
CAUTION:
Before installing the battery cartridge
into the tool, alw ays check to see that the slide sw itch
actuates properly and returns to the " OFF" position
w hen the rear of the slide sw itch is depressed.
CAUTION:
S w itch can be locked in " ON " posi-
tion for ease of operator comfort during extended
use. Apply caution w hen locking tool in " ON "
position and maintain firm grasp on tool.

Speed adjusting dial
The rotation speed of the tool can be changed by turn-
ing the speed adjusting dial. The table below shows
t h e n u m b e r o n t h e d i a l a n d t h e c o r r e s p o n d i n g r o t a t i o n
s p e e d .

NOTICE:
If the tool is operated continuously at
lo w speed for a long time, the motor w ill get over-
loaded, resulting in tool malfunction.
NOTICE:
The speed adjusting dial can be turned
only as far as 5 and back to 1. Do not force it past
5 or 1, or the speed adjusting function may no
longer w ork.

Electric brake
Electric brake is activated after the tool is switched o .
The brake does not work when the power supply is shut
down, such as the battery is removed accidentally, with
t h e s w i t c h s t i l l o n .
If the tool consistently fails to quickly stop after turning
o the switch, have the tool serviced at a Makita Service
C e n t e r .
Electronic function
Accidental re-start preventive function
When installing the battery cartridge while the switch is
O N , t h e t o o l d o e s n o t s t a r t .
To start the tool, turn o the switch, and turn it on again.
Active Feedback sensing Technology
The tool electronically detects situations where the
wheel or accessory may be at risk to be bound. In the
situation, the tool is automatically shut o to prevent
f u r t h e r r o t a t i o n o f t h e s p i n d l e ( i t d o e s n o t p r e v e n t
k i c k b a c k ) .
To restart the tool, switch o the tool first, remove the
c a u s e o f s u d d e n d r o p i n t h e r o t a t i o n s p e e d , a n d t h e n
t u r n t h e t o o l o n .
Soft start feature
S o f t s t a r t f e a t u r e r e d u c e s s t a r t i n g r e a c t i o n .
ASSEMBLY
CAUTION:
Al w ays be sure that the tool is
switched o and the battery cartridge is removed
before adjusting or checking function on the tool.
Installing side grip (handle)
CAUTION:
Al w ays be sure that the side grip is
installed securely before operation.
Screw the side grip securely on the position of the tool
as shown in the figure.

Installing or removing w heel guard
WARNING:
wheel, ap disc or wire wheel brush, the wheel
guard must be fitted on the tool so that the
closed side of the guard al w ays points to w ard the
operator.
WARNING:
securely locked by the lock lever w ith one of the
holes on the w heel guard.

wheel guard designed for use with cut-o wheels.
